  • The 70's! SOHC4 Honda's & Marcia Brady of course.
I had been out of the SOHC4 world since the late 70's. Not until I ran across a 1970 CB750 at a auction sale in 2009 was the switch turned on again and excitement returned to my soul. Because of this I did a google search for Honda CB750 for info on these bikes and the SOHC4 Forum website popped up. Pictures, information I loved it, I wasn't a member just spent time here. All I knew was that I had to get a CB750. And on Nov 16 2009 I got a 1976 CB750K6 and officially signed up and became a member here. Been a lot of fun for 3 years and looking for more of the same in the coming years. Whats your story?

I picked up a 74 550 and wanted to clean it up.  Decided to really refurb the bike, but all of the motorcycles I worked on before were newer (80s) so I had a lot to learn.  I googled the bike for a forum and found this place.  I'm hooked now.  Love all of the pictures, advice and commentary.  Although some posters write while on their period at times.   ;D  The Steve Saunders Gold Wing forum is probably a little less hard, but this place is fabulous.  Don't miss working on the Gold Wing though.

If you enjoy being treated like an ass, try the 900C forum.

I came here looking for advice this past summer. My wife got me a Kawasaki KZ650 for fathers day/my bday and I thought the bike was awesome. That is until I went to look at a 1976 550 a few weeks later. The owner wanted 800 for it. All original minus the seat and 4-1 kerker exhaust. Plus he had the original seat of exhuast and seat he was willing to give with the sale as well.  Well, long story short. The bike would not get out of nuetral to first. Once it did the bike kept dying. Like when one leaves off the clutch to fast. After he and I dragged the bike back in his garage I tried one more itme and PING. Went into first. I took it for a ride and it just felt right.  Came back to the house told him I can't see paying 800 for a bike that seems to have a tranny problem. After calling me by by name the entire meeting, he states, "GUY I TOLD YOU 800. I WILL PUT HER BACK IN MY BARN" I left there wanting the bike. When we got back home I callled him and told him I liked it and if he wanted it to go to a good home Im the person. Next morning I he calls me on accident at 6am. I was liek oh sweet he changed his mind. I call him back and start going on my scpeal how I cant see paying hsi price. He states" dont worry about it, its been sold and the guy already came this morning and bought it site onseen. " then he hung up...................

I was more angered then anything but knew the 550 was for me. I found my first 550 not to long after. With the great help, insight, and tolerance of being a noobie from the members here I have found my new passion. So definately I came here before owning a CB and got a sense of what i was going to endure with it from this site. I am thinking lots of people will state they came here before buying their CB's or older generation finding refuge here when using google.

Great topic DHALL.

BTW i drove the kawi maybe 20 miles after i bought the 550. Now its gone to a kid and his dad for their xmas project.

Not a member before I got my 72 CB750 (painted yield sign yellow, hence the screen name) in 2006.  I did buy a factory manual, but the knowledge base here (Hondaman and Two Tired come to mind among others), made joing the forum a must.  I did own a 75 CB550 and a 78 750F back in the day, but no internet (don't know how much you could do with a Commodore Vic20 anyway).  The discussions can get heated (I wonder if they make Midol for men) but this is a great place to ask questions (especially about tires and oil).  :o  All in all a enjoyable way to pass cold winter days and learn something at the same time.

My 650 came in 3 boxes, two wheels a frame and an engine I was told was stuffed.
I had the engine running in a week and the rest all just fell into place with a lot of help from the forum guys on here, I've had two CB650's now and wouldn't say no to a 750.
I do know I'd still be scratching my head or paying top dollar for some bike shop apprentice to fumble through the problems I struck if I hadn't Googled and found SOHC4.
The world wide family on here seriously rocks and I thank you all. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I had a KZ440 which I worked on and had it OK. I joined some groups for that and it was fairly useless. When i lucked into my 750 there was a lot of work to do. I found the old Greenspun site which was crude but the people were sincere and helpful and I was able to get the bike in decent shape. When it moved here I followed, I dispense wisdom when I can, and I learn a lot. I am refreshing the bike and ready to tackle some jobs I have been able to avoid. This site will come in handy this winter.

I purchased my first street bike about 5 years ago. A 1972 CB750 K1. Not knowing anything about these bikes I surfed the web and came across this site and have never left. Great people here who can answer any questions you might have.

Sold my Kaw 1000 a few years ago and always wanted another road bike (still had my Suzi TS250).
Started surfing, found this site decided a CB was in my future, and really liked the stock four into one exhaust on the Super Sports. Found one on CL soon after and now I have three!

I found the sohc4 forum about six months after getting my '75 400F back in 2001.  I had owned a few other motorcycles before, but this was the first I'd owned since the internet had become a big thing and I actually owned a computer with which to look stuff up.  It's really nice to see that a lot of the regulars from back then are still here today.

Now that I think about it, my first computer that I used to find this forum was a dead one given to me by a friend that I rebuilt and got running again.  Figures. ::) ;D

Had two 750's and a 400f before this site existed.  They were gone before this site existed.

I started getting an itch for another 750, became a member, the itch faded and I can't remember what that account name was.

I can't remember which came first, membership again or the 750 this time but it was close together (I think).  Momma got her motorcycle license and she wanted a bike.  Came upon the current 750, she needed a bike, she liked it and I wanted a project.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

You talking about before this particular version of the sohc4 forum existed, or the sohc4 internet message board in general?

The whole thing. 400f in the late 70's and the 750's in the 80's.

I am getting old, aren't I?

But this is my second membership.

I am getting old, aren't I?

I had an "old" moment last week.  I was at my parents' house and my dad put in a vhs tape with some old 70's era home movies of us kids he'd had transferred from 8mm film back in the 90's.  My niece asked "where's the sound?".  It reminded me of when I was little and wondering why all the old pictures of my parents as children were in black & white. ::)

My neighbor gave me a CB500 "parts bike" feeling sorry for me after I was forced to sell my HD Sportster to pay for radiation treatment for my golden retriever.  This was the trigger which caused me to find and join the SOHC4 forum.  The rest is history and I have 3 wonderful and demanding machines now.

I bought my first CB750 new in 1978. It was a 1975 "F" that was sitting in a warehouse with some other unloved and unwanted F's that the dealer couldn't sell, and I got it for a good price. I've had CB750's ever since, I'm guessing 20, but it could be as many as 30?

I joined this forum in the old Greenspun days, and I've enjoyed the shared knowledge, conversations and friendships that I've made, I'm still learning, and still enjoying my time here. Merry Christmas! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I owned a 500 and a 750 in the 70's then a few years ago I helped clean up my brothers back yard and drug home enough stuff to build a bike. found this site and got another two. One is a low mile 76F rider  The other is a 750 K0 that was just powder coated and starting to go back together.

Ha ha, no, I haven't hoarded them mate, most of them I bought in a #$%* state and restored, then sold to pay for the next project because I really enjoy fixing things and couldn't bear to see poor old bikes languishing, usually after someone had started to strip and rebuild them, only to give up once they realised that either they didn't have the time, the mechanical skills, or the money, to fix them.

Before the internet, I had to rely on my local dealer, so usually spent a lot of money fixing them, and then lost out when I sold them again, but now that I can ride the "Information Superhighway", parts are plentiful and relatively cheap now, and the good thing is that CB750's are riding a wave of popularity that I haven't seen since the 1970's, so it's actually worthwhile financially (as well as spiritually) to turn something old and forgotten into something "as new" again.

In recent years, Goldie, (BOTM June 2010) and my Blue K2 (BOTM January 2011) have been my most enjoyable builds because everything went right with no nasty surprises that required the engine to be pulled out again like my F2 which came out 3 times before I got it right, and of course, my favorite at the moment is my "Rainbow Warrior" bike, I actually built it several years ago, but in that time it's morphed from a rat bike to a race bike, and while it'll never be finished, I'm having fun adding period "go fast" parts as I find them. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, did you go for the exact color of the early sandcast blue green on the k2? I like how the gold stripe flows with the colors and if you do not mind, I think i will use it for the color of my powder coat now that i see how well the colors flow... Do you have a color code for the stripe?
