So exited to have a rolling chassis with an engine! Been too long! Repolished my top triple. And did a good clean on her all over. Realized my steering dampener needs moving....
Also this is a fiberglass inner fender that will have most if my electronics mounted to it. As well as a breaklight and my liscense plate. Painted with another black and silver tremclad blend.

Here's a detail of how the front of the seat mounts.

Looking good BS. When mounting a steering damper i weld a U shaped bracket,  about where your bracket is but on the outside of the frame, it should be big enough so you can slide a nut behind it to mount the damper....  Does that make sense.?  I have an F model frame that has a bracket similar to yours but it sits to the front of the frame....

Mocked up it looks like a real bike at a glance! Very racy feeling and small. Quite a bit different than the stocker. Next on the list is finish the rear brake, possibly move the rearsets forward and make a new oil tank because the one I did won't fit in there with the engine in. :( !! I want to be able to pull it out without pulling the motor.  I think I'm gonna go aluminum this time. Figure out how to weld it as I go I guess.... I do have a guy to tell me how while I'm there.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm gonna mount the coils, and make sure my sparkplug wires are out of the way of it, as well as an oil cooler. So there's a lot going on on the front of the bike still. The dampener can wait.  Anyone know if there's much on the site about building a header?

Just a word of caution mate, the trail on these old bikes is under 4 inches which makes for a slightly nervous front end from stock, with the longer boldor shocks and the forks slid up the trees a bit, you will have smaller trail numbers, making for a very nervous front, you will need that damper before riding the bike at highway speeds.... ;)

yeah  i can get behind that for sure. any idea how much trail is desirable? is 4" something i should be shooting for? i have a bunch of different shocks i can try out and the front is easy to adjust... the dampener is definately going on .. just maybe going on last. :)

Most GSXR's are just under 4 inches, {3.7- 3.9 there abouts} and all have Dampers, Around 4" or a touch over would be desirable...

Man I dont really know how many hrs are into it. Probably a couple hundred? But it's a just hobby time. Bits here and there. Polishing and cleaning are very time consuming i think. And i got an hr-plus commute to use the welder when i need it.  When I get a chance to spend a day on it it feels like tons gets done.

Last night I went down and measured the trail. It's about 4.75". Seems longer than expected. Maybe the axle being closer to the ground helps.... No that should be opposite. Anyhow. Steering dampener will go back on and im less scared about trail. Woot!

So. Been busy at work and being a dad. And I've gotten a couple January rides in! Woot woot!
But I have had time to get the rear brake sorted. Got an atv cable- I believe -from random backstock at our local Suzuki dealer. And just bent up a couple brackets that bolt to the rear hub and rearsets to hold it in the right place. The return springs are clutch springs. Works well. Hope it holds up. The cable mount to the pedal is not as beefy as I'd like. But I don't use much rear brake anyway. So if it gives up the ghost I'll deal with that at the time.

Hi Black and Silver...I got access to a couple of those same HD/Borrani rims you used and am very interested in doing so myself...what was involved in lacing those to the Honda hubs?...just custom spokes?...did you have to re-drill the rim spoke holes at all?...please tell me how it works... :)Really like how your bike is looking so far...definately dig your inspiration pics and it's always cool to see guys modding stuff for a performance improvement...

Hey yeah I do need to update. For now I'll just say that the borrani rims were pretty easy to use, they are drop centre for a sportster. 18". The front works with no trouble. But because of the width of the front it is Tough to get the arms for the calipers on the forks. The rim ends up a quarter inch from the bolt head. The rear fits the bike easy but the angle for the spoke nipples is wrong so I needed to re drill the rim to get it useable.
The bike is close to finished. I'm just making an exhaust. If anyone has experience making baffles I'm
All ears:)

Heyo. Been a long while. ....
Sooo I think this is where I left off.
Bought a reg rec off of a local shop that was meant for a virago
Mounted all the electrical in the space between the 3 upper frame rails.
Cut an aluminum tray for them to sit in and just started in on it.
Stock solenoid, digital flasher, light up on/off switch,no keys.
Shorai battery under the seat.

Here's a shot of the finished electrical.
Lights from biker highway.
Battery in, you can see the red lead running under subframe.
New coils and dyna ignition. Matching red wires. High fashion.
Liscence plate keeps the muck off my oil tank. Lol. Hope that's not illegal. Getting ready to make an exhaust and new footrests.

Sidetracked again. Friend asked me n bluegreen to get his 550 together for summer
Really happy with this aluminum shorai battery box.
Bike turned out great. Fast and fun to ride. Ended up with cb900 shocks on the back and a bit of extra rash from the shakedown but its still going strong. Fun build. Scratch wired it and otherwise it was all in boxes ready to get together.

Started in on an exhaust. BBQ black. It's a aftermarket Frankenstein. The down pipes are 750f 1 5/8" diameter from god knows where. Flanges fabricated, collector fabricated, and tail pipe from possibly an egli pipe for Kawasaki or something.
Sounds great. :) Bike is now running!!

Really liked the f4 foot rests but the stock brackets were just too far back.
De decided to fab new ones. Here's the shift side finished, had to customize the linkage to make it work. Very happy with their function. And they look cool too I think.
