Oil flow direction at the filter-
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:59:45 PM »
1974 CB550-

Before I button this last bit up- I need to confirm that the flow is "OUT" the central hole (into the center of the element), and back "IN" at the lower hole (after flowing through the element to the outside), and this is at the filter/filter housing area at the front of the motor.

There is a oil flow chart in the manual at the front about page 26. Looks like it flows from the outside to the center.

I don't have that flow chart in my Clymer manual- What manual are you referring to?

Bollingball is referring to the HONDA maintenance manuals on SOHC4 website.  You have to look closely to see the arrows depicting oil flow in the engine blowup on Page 36.  The link below takes you to the correct manual section, just page down in the .pdf until you get to page 36.

Honda's manuals are much more comprehensive than Clymer or Haynes.

Nope, comes in from the outside, flows through filter to center.
You will severly reduce surface area flowing from center out, plus, you will never be able to see anything that should be on outside if it's inside
