Reader's beware, read with caution. VERY VERY SAD FOR CB750's
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:12:24 AM »
I know someone posted the 1970 cb750 which is on ebay for a buy it now 6900 price tag.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-CB750-K0-W-TITLE-BIKE-COMPLETE-CAFE-RACER-SANDCAST-DIECAST-BARN-FRESH-/230720640857?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item35b8059759

I emailed him notifying him that it was not a Sandcast as he had listed and asked some questions. He responded today and this is what he had to say....

Thanks for your interest.

I actually have 4 of these 1970 cb750s and also a bare frame which I paid **** bucks for everything from a salvage yard which was scraping them. I actually pulled 3 off the scrap trailer. Many more got crushed.

Sad day when you leave with all you can fit in your truck, and the owner just wants scrap cash. All gone now.

You must be 1 out of the 142 people whom are watching the auction.

Thanks agian for the comments, they lifted my day

Cheers

- theyankeepicker

I removed what he stated he paid as I am not trying to hinder his sale. But to learn that they had a trailer of them heading for the crusher. OMG, so sad. Now I may start contacting local salvage yards to keep me in mind if they run across any. I think my comment about not being a Sandcast pissed him off but oh well.

I am surprised that there are still any left in the salvage yards as most were crushed years ago when there wasn't much interest in an "old bikes"...Larry

I was just talking to a guy who's neighbors's tenant was a CB350f/400f horder. The landlord ended up scrapping them because they were an eyesore. Supposedly more than ten bikes. That was back in the 80s when these things were not highly desired!  Just makes ours more rare I guess. :)

He knows perfectly well it's not a Sandcast, but he put that in there to get more results from buyer searches.  Keyword spamming like that isn't allowed on ebay, but at the same time they won't do anything about it even if it's reported.

I'm not all that hurt by hearing that some 750's are getting scrapped.  Like has been said, I'm sure the number getting that treatment today is just a small fraction of how many were scrapped through the 80's and 90's.

Tews19.......

I also sent the same message as you, thinking he would change the Sandcast to Diecast which he did but kept the sandcast reference.
He also responded with the exact same reply. I thought he would change the price also but no.

Yeah. And that guy is high if he thinks that (imho) parts bike is worth ~$6K.

Dont lose any sleep over it, at the end of the auction he will have a clear idea of what folks want to pay.. maybe he will try again, with a lower price.. or the same.. Dont worry about ot, he is paying the higher fees for listing...to take it for a ride on ebay..

Tews, dont worry about the big picture, if a lot of them did not disappear, there would be less fuss over them now, and they would be worth less monedy..

Like the auctioneers say, the market will set the price. There will be an occasional skewed sale but it always works out. Sorry to hear they got scrapped. I would bring another truck load home. Not sure where I would put them... A couple parts bikes have saved me a bunch of money.

Bike is too far gone to be worth a starting bid of $900. Even though it's a K0 I'd price it at $400 tops.

I guess it's me being a newbie still to CB nation that i didnt realize this has probably been happening for years. I couldn't imagine being involved with CB's during the 80-90's and knowing they were being used for scrap metal.

Two years ago i spotted 3 SOHC frames in a scrap yard laying on top of a pile of steel.  They had been dropped off the day before.  I approached the yard owner about buying them.  No dice, insurance liability was his response.  They are probably Toyota brake rotors by now.

In a perfect world we could save all the 750's,but we all know it's not a perfect world :( All we can do is rescue what we can and keep them on the road ;D Honda made so many of these sohc4 750's there still many out there, but finding a good deal and a fair price now that's the $64,000 question. Most the 750's you see on ebay are way over priced good or bad shape. Most sellers know that these bikes are getting in high demand and are just trying to hit a home run on one bike. If I was looking for another 750 it sure wouldn't be on over inflated ebay.

Tews - yes, it is sad to think of these bikes getting scrapped, but not to worry, there are still plenty of them out there at reasonable prices too (ask me how I know!).
I have a good feeling you will have one by April, I will help see to it!

Tews, Like I said and Stev-o said the 750's are still out there and the deals are too. Basically just being at the right place at the right time. Many members here have gotten great deals on 750's this year including myself. Two others that come to mind are Johnie and his very nice 750K3 and Hoodellyhoo and his 750K6 that he got FREE!!! Check out both there project threads.

Wow my desperation for a 750 is subconsciously showing through my post here!!!! AHH, no biggie. I think that is the part of the bikes which I really enjoy, the hunt that is. I did some American Picker style yesterday on the way to my father's house.  I Drive past this business every time on my way to his house since the late 1990’s. I decided to call and ask if they have any parts for a 550. Well , it happens they have a 77 550K that is mint, a 72 750, and a 74 unmolested 750. Not to mention several 350f’s and a couple 360’s. Unfortunately the two 750’s are in  storage and the owner will be sending pics and getting the bikes out hopefully soon. They have many many other vintage bikes. The gentleman doesn't like to post his stuff on the internet is what he told me and wouldn't allow me to take pics.

I read every update on Johnie's and Hoodellyhoo threads all the time. I'm thinking we may need to start a SOHC gathering for us Wisconsinites this upcoming summer.

Sounds like you got a gold mine there Tews. Stay in touch with the guy and let him know your  true intentions and just be honest with him and you would love to have one to restore and ride and keep on the road and would give it a good home. Guys like this never advertise there stuff for sale you either run across it by pure accident or word of mouth. The 750KO I got in May of this year was just a stroke of luck. It was not listed for sale either. My Son was talking to his boss about how his Dad liked old Honda motorcycles and was looking for another one (already had my 750k6). As a matter of fact his boss said a friend of mine I think still has a old blue Honda parked in his garage. Don't know much about it he said, but I know it's a Honda and its one of the larger ones. Well that old blue Honda that was one of larger one's turned out to be a 1970 4/70 Candy Blue Green CB750KO with only 20,000 miles, it ran and had a clear title and was almost all still original. Just needed some TLC. $900 got it, the title was signed over to me and its was loaded on the trailer and brought home. So don't give up Tews your 750 is out there ;D

I sold a set of KO covers to the guy through ebay. He was....a knob. I gave him a partial refund and will not deal with him again. It is funny now to see the type of bikes that he was working on because his biggest complaint was that my covers werent ready for paint right out of the box. Shortly after he bought mine I saw him list a set of his garbage originals with a bad prime job listed on ebay for $200. Glad I didnt get hooked into selling him covers for the "6 other sandcast Cb750 bikes" that he was restoring. just my 2 cents yo.

Even a completely knackered CB750 and it doesn't matter which "K" it is will get $3000 here in NZ, we just don't have the amount they sold in the states, although every now and then we have some quite nice ones that are ex USA so looks like someone has cottoned onto the demand.
Closest I got was a female I know who did a lot of touring in the hippy days on her 750 and even though it had been collecting rust and dust int he back of her shed she got $5k for it!
Count yourselve's lucky that you can still trip over the odd bargain/barn find, I think it adds to the charm and character of these machines......still looking for a CB750...Hush. :)

I feel you Twes, after i got my 650 and fell head over heels for it, i began searching for a 750k. The amount of chops, "cafes", and such popping up with this current craze has me sweating  being able to find a halfway decent stocker. I really like the customizing that is done well to these but i really REALLY like to see a clean stock survivor. I tend to picture Terry's "goldie" for that, stunning.
