CB750 oil won't drain completely

78 CB750 oil doesn't come out as expected. Even with some kicks on the starter with the drain plug out, plenty of oil in the reservoir without any more oil flowing out.

Hey man... do you have a manual for your bike? Have you taken off the right-hand side cover yet ?
Under the r/h sidecover ( the one that covers the oil tank ) you will see that the oil tank has it's own drain plug

Just picked up a manual, and now realize that I'll need to drain from both the pan and the reservoir.
Any tips on making it a faster oil change? Any way to drain from one plug?

I have also noticed that when draining the oil from the 750 engine a lot of oil is still 'trapped' inside the engine if done off the centerstand only. You will be surprised at how much more dirty stuff will drain out if you tip it very far to the left and right for a short bit and hold it then set it straight again. gets the old oil out of some trapped areas.

It is a DRY SUMP oil system. Just like some race cars and airplanes.
Oil is NOT stored in the engine. It is stored in the oil tank.
Helps cut down on the crankshaft drag in a conventional oil pan.

If I'm replacing the oil pan, can I do without draining the reservoir while working on it?

Partly laziness, and so I don't have to drain new oil and either dispose of it or recollect it.

This thread is making only some sense. Taking the pan off is the opposite of laziness.

Replacing the oil pan is more of a necessity. It seems that it has been tapped out more than once, so I figured I'd pay the $30 for a better pan with good threads and a smaller hole (that I may have to tap again someday).
