Can anybody help identify these....
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:53:41 PM »
...2 wires hanging here?? i've asked the previous owner(he dint know) and the schematic in my vintage 1970 shop manual looks like hyroglythics...and there are no visible connectors near them? I got spark and lights so i'm not sure and i don't want to run it without fixing them and draining my new battery. Sorry but my photoshop skills are rusty as seen by the text size
any help would be welcomed
Thanks
Doug

brake light switch wires.

they might plug into the harness somewhere..... or the cable might be off something else.

Horn?

What are their colors? I'll look at my original shop manual and see if I can help - but I need their colors. Your photos don't show the detail or I'm getting old....

I was thinking brake light wires as the ones to the horn are connected
i'm not seeing any available connectors to plug into, gordon, let me check their colors, i can read a schematic but mine is super tiny text and grainy
sorry..i'll be back

Gordon...one looks black and one is green with a yellow stripe
not sure if that'll help? i'm going to remove the tank and start following stuff around and see maybe if it ran up into the headlight/speedo housing? i did connect 2 wires up there already(easy one) but these 2 baffle me

Those colours are brake light wires.

cant see wether they come from the switch or out of the loom, if loom black will be live with ignition on

The bike probably got a brake cable put on that does not have a brake light switch.

Looks like a '67 CL90 - Front brake switches were not standard at that time, I don't think.
Previous post suggested it might be a newer cable wired for a front brake swtich, and that's probably correct.
If you want a front brake light, just run those wires to the same-colored wires anywhere on the bike.
Black is hot (after the key switch), green/yellow just provides a path to ground so that one can just go to a green ground wire anywhere (green is always ground on these bikes).

I'll get you guys better pix....i at first thought "gee i wonder IF that works with the front brake?" but never have i seen something like it...looks like a mini shrink wrapped "union" but i couldn't imagine HOW it worked off the cable...when i get pix i'll show ya! i didn't even have those on my 69 CT from before so it puzzled me...it is in fact a 1969  model CL90...but i just don't want hanging wires dangling around...the previous owner was gratious but needed to get back on the road because of traffic and said "It never hurt anything and ran fine...so i shrugged my shoulders, paid him and here i am
I'll get it figured with your guys help and i really appreciate it YOU GUYS!!
Thanks

Oh yeah...this little 1/2" diameter by 2" long "union" with the wires coming out is directly behind the headlight shell
don't and it envelopes the cable...mystifying little detail i know...i'll get pix

That would be a brake light switch. That's where it went before hydraulics. It(cable with switch) may not be original to your bike but it wouldn't hurt to hook it up. You might find connections for it in the headlight bucket. There should be a black wire nearby anyway and you may have to jumper the green/yellow back to where the taillight wires connect.

Yeah...i'm inclined to agree with you Mark after all the response
here are some pix to make it more clear...i'm probably going to run a splice/jumper into the rear if i can't find the female ends, i'll double check in the headlight bucket again in case i missed it?!?
Thanks for the Help

Yup Green/Yellow goes to the rear light stop fillament (usually via the loom) and NOT to a ground as suggested earlier

Re: Can anybody help identify these.& SHE FIRED UP!!
« Reply #15 on: February 18, 2009, 06:36:46 AM »
Well with all the raain i couldn't drain the gas tank or do any carb work...so the wife and kids are gone...i grab my key...kick about 10 times...nothing, i cup the carb mouth and hit the kicker a couple of times...feeling the suction...notice the spark plug cap is off..so i snap it on and kick 2 more times and she lights up and runs for 1/2 a minute...so now i'm kicking like crazy, i even push start it but nothing...i think the carb is really dirty as i primed it with the hand-cupping so this weekend IF the rain lets up i'll roll her onto the driveway and drain the tank, pull the carb and get to work!!
BUT SHE DID RUN!!! Yippeee
it sounded good too!

I understand the 350 Four obsession, i "gave away" a running one (1972 350F) to a good friend with the understanding he finish the cafe style build
and stay in touch..he sold it and never calls anymore...and made $1500 off it..i don't cry over spilled milk and i guess i'm getting mine back with the CL
stuff?!?! anyhow...i'd like to get the other one and make a Knobby tired real scrambler out of it with a big bore kit or 150 cc Lifan motor in it...just thinking?!?!?
