1979 CB650 Cafe Build
« on: January 01, 2012, 11:01:52 AM »
This build is gonna be done with a college budget, but hopefully will turn out lean, mean, and raw.

I bought a 79 CB650 from a friend for $300 over the summer because he couldn't get it running.  Turns out the floats were upside down in the bowls.  Fixed that, and it ran alright.  Got the carbs cleaned, rebuilt, and back together and it ran great.  Still is finicky when it's not warmed up, but goes fine otherwise.  Threw some clubmans on it and called it good for the summer.  Just now starting to tear the bike down for the winter.  I'll post progress pictures as I go.  My main inspiration for this is the UGLY Motorsports Co. CB650.  I'll post some pics of mine in a little while.

Thanks scunny, I've already enjoyed the hell out of the 2000 miles I put on this summer.  I like your exhaust a lot, how loud is it?

I've attached a picture of my bike from this summer (the effect makes it look way nicer than it is, although it's in good condition) and a picture of the UGLY CB650.

Attached a picture of the progress so far.  Probably gonna pull the rest of the wiring harness this week, maybe even get the motor ready to come out.  It needs to be torn down for gaskets and most likely pistons/rings (smokes quite a bit under really hard acceleration).  While I'm in there, are there any good big bore kits for the 650?

I was definitely excited to see how heavy the stock rear fender/tail light assembly was that isn't going back on the bike.  That much closer to being lightweight!
