Hiya folks ... i'm starting some work on my new cb.. the bike is in decent running shape so the work will be mostly aestetic .....soo far i've swapped the stock high rise bars for black superbike ones. i'll post some picks shortly but at the moment i'm trying to find a paint color. i did a little work with gimp and was able to mess around with the color a bit. I think the pea green / olive looks pretty good. i'm trying to find a color that was used on a production automobile. soo far the closest thing i've found is "lime gold" which was used on mustangs. I'd prefer a color that wasn't metallic or peal. Can anyone think of any cars that came in a pea green / olive color?

Check out Volkswagen colors from the late sixties to the early eighties. Lots of great greens there...

I'm pretty sure that the 69ish Dodge Coronet used that pea green color.

thanks for the suggestions guys .... i think we may have a wiener ... i looked through Volkswagen colors of the past and i'm really liking iceland green

progress...

the bike was leaking gas so i figured i take apart the carbs ... they actually ended up being pretty clean already

i ran out of time but i was able to finish the #4 carb. The #4 was the one which was leaking and there ended up being a torn o-ring. i'm hoping thats what the issue was

in parallel i've gotten the tank stripped and ready for some serious bondo ... underneath the black paint there was a tangerine sized dent

in order to prevent rust ... at least to some degree ... i've been keeping the tank in a garbage bag with a monster size dessicant ... i'm waiting for the weather to warm up a little so that i can spray primer

one thing which i've actually completed is changing the high rise bars out ... black superbike bars

i also replaced the clutch cable with a -4" one ... fits good ... i probably should change the brake line as well since its a lil bit kinky right now .... i have the replacement line ready to go but haven't gotten to it as of yet

That's quite a divot you have in the tank. Are you going to try to pound it out some, or fill it with bondo?

Run the tank down to a body shop and see if they scan spot weld a stud on the dent and try to yank it out some first. Best $20 and 20 minutes you'll spend.

Bondo that thick doesn't bode well for your long-term happiness.

to strip or not to strip

unfortunately i had already proceeeded to fill the divot with bondo before seeing theofam's reply... i was aware that bondo this thick wasn't ideal but i did it anyway based on the fact that whoever painted the tank before did the same thing without any disasterous results ...

currently there is one layer of primer on the tank ... now i need to decide whether i should cross my fingers and proceed or re-strip the tank pull the dent and start over

thoughts?

i'm pretty happy with the color i went with ... its a light olive that was from toyota rj40s of the 80's

a little gritty but it sanded out

i've kind of had a 2 steps forward 1 step back thing going on ... i'm trying to get things done in short blocks of time here and there ... i think i need to be a little more patient

not a disaster though ... sanded the drips down and was able to re-spray the next day

it looked pretty good but after looking at it for a few days

i couldn't stop noticing that my bondo job was a little squirrelly

and dug back in

i'm going to attempt to smooth everything back out with evercoat metal glaze and re-spray a few coats of the basecoat
