Best place for Bridgestone Spitfires?
« on: December 30, 2011, 11:32:51 AM »
I've pretty much decided to give the Spitfires a shot (unless someone can convince me that the Battleaxe is a better choice) and was wondering who has the best price/service these days?

This is for a '78 CB550K. I was also considering going up one size on the rear. The late K models got a little "fat" in the rear end with the seat, bigger signals, tail lamp, etc. There's currently a 100/90-18 on there and it just seems TOO skinny.
How would a 120/90 look compared to the 110/90? I guess handling may be a little sharper with the 110, but I'm no knee dragger...

And go with the 100/90-19 for the front?

I bought mine at Motorcycle Superstore, they are on sale and shipping is free w/purchase over $89.
I have a 110/90 on the rear of my '76 K, and it too looks a little small but it may be pushing it to go wider on the stock rim.
Don't forget to order tubes and rim strips too.

I have 120 spitfires on the back with the 100 on the front.  I like the way it looks but gets into my chain guard ever so slightly.

That can quickly be remedied with a Dremel tool. ;)

Nathan, any pics? Maybe a rear 3/4 view?

I just bought some from Americanmototire.com for $123 for both with free shipping.I have used the spitfires before and like the performance, price, and with the white lettering looks pretty cool in my opinion.

I have a 110 on the front, and a 120 on the rear.  I love the tires, and they look meaty on the 500.

 Hmm....now do I want the 100 or 90 front?

Think I'll try the 100/90 fr. and 120/90 rr. Too bad I can't get a matched set with the raised white letters.

Don't see a 120/90/17 for the back of my K8 750.... do not want a 130 on that rear rim as suggested at my local bike shop :o ::)... plenty of tires for an 18 in rim, but nothing smaller than a 130 for a 17 inch... baah.... Any suggestions, K7-K8 owners ?

Go where Steve-o suggested. motorcycle superstore. I got mine there for the same bike you are looking for. I started a thread on this a while ago which size to go with. Stick with Honda's recommendation. they arent skinny on the bike...If this is th efirst time changing the tires in a long time, may want to get the rubber band aid thing that goes on the rim for a buck each and new tubes. Never know how rusty the inner rim is.

I purchased a set for my Silverwing from Jake Wilson in Utah.  It was the cheapest I found, but I have used american motorcycle tire, Dennis Kirk and the aforementioned superstore.  All gave great service...Larry

Tews and Nathan, I'd really love to see a rear 3/4 view of the bike with those tires on it. That would help me decide whether I want the 110 or 120.
Tews, why did you go with the 110? Simply because it's stock or ?

I just realized last night that someone put a 100/90-18 on the rear of my '78. No wonder it looks so skinny!

nice 550 sarge!spitfires are discontinued here im told, ive used them and liked them,an oversize tire can wear the centre tread out faster on the smaller rim.

thanks dave.  She has come a little ways since I bought her.  Been thinking about getting her ported and polished for 2012.

Wow, those are some nice looking tires and the reviews on MSS are great. I'd definitely be buying a set of those right now if they shipped to Hawaii. It'd be $133 for the set :/ But since I live in Hawaii, unless I can find somewhere that'll sell MSRP (not inflated Hawaii prices) 33% off, I'll probably be paying $250+ for them :(

But I still give a huge thumbs up to these tires.
