Anyone know old goldwing seats?
« on: December 30, 2011, 08:43:17 PM »
Among the parts i'm selling to fund my K6 project I have this oem goldwing seat. I'm told it fits a 78 or 79. My main question is: what's it worth? It's in good shape except for some rust on the pan. I've looked on ebay a number of times and all that comes up is a cover or king/quees seats. Does this make the seat rare and a little more desireable or are there only a handful of people who actually want an original goldwing seat?

I was also looking for a place to sell it that's not ebay, but I suppose my original question would get answered if I did sell it there. I looked at the naked goldwings site but they don't appear to have a for sale section. Any other sites I should look at?

that is a 78-79 seat.
I think you have to register to see the for sale and wanted section on Naked Goldwings.
I can post it up there if you like?

Nothing special there just a stock seat.

It is not a rare seat for goldwings.  If it was a '75 or a '76 seat then it is more desireable, then a '78 or a '79 seat.  Other then craigslist and ebay try the naked goldwing forum, and some of the other forums devoted to generic japanese motorcycles.

I did register on the site and still nothing comes up ??? I was looking for something that would tell me if I needed a few posts before I could sell stuff but I couldn't find anything.

I figured the first gen. wings are more desireable. I just didn't know if anyone actually restores a 78/79 wing back to stock.

Thanks for the replies guys! Any idea on a ballpark price? Think I could get $125 out of it if I clean it up? Just trying to get as much $$ for bike parts as I can.

Maybe half that. With the pan a little gone if it was super solid you could hold out for the 125.
I think you need 5 posts.

Thanks! I know most folks don't like to put a number on value but sometimes a guy's just gotta ask.

Those seats do tend to go for less. The pan appears to be rusty at the edges. I do believe though that the 78' pans (which yours appears to be) do fit the earlier models. So you might get a buyer looking for a seat for a '77 or '76 LTD, but they would need to recover it.

Ebay would probably be your best bet for the most money. Set a reserve at $80. You might get more.

Just my 2cents

I knew that the first gen. bikes and parts were the most desireable. I was looking through the naked goldwings site yesterday and it seems this seat will fit any of the gl1000's from 75-79. the rust is a shame but seems to be common for these year seat pans. Besides the rust there's some dings in the chrome trim and a small tear I just discovered. I'm thinking I'll put it up for $75+shipping and see what happens. If I did do ebay there would be no reserve. I want to get my money from it and get it gone. I need the space and money to keep my K6 project moving.

Thanks for the replies guys. It really helps!
