Rant on dog owners
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:09:34 PM »
Hey All,
I cant believe what i just saw and heard at my local King Soopers. I walk in through the vegetable area. I stop and look and some fresh veggies. I kind stand near this guy there already. I'm walking away and here this sneeze so I turn to say godbless you and he has a dog in his arms kinda under his jacket. The dog was sneezing not him. I walk right over get the manager and ask if he can be removed. He say he cant tell him to leave. He tells me there is a thing out there called companionship dogs he said and is a fine line and wont ask him to leave. So I told him he just lost a good customer.

Why cant people understand that your dog is a Dog and does Not need to go everywhere you do and is a pet not a person. Sorry if I sound cold hearted but come on people now just think they can do what ever they please it just pisses me off.
If its not a service dog it has no reason for being in a store that sells food.

The kid can turn his head or sneeze into his arm like anyone with respect should do. A dog can't.

Your dog does not belong in a grocery store if your not disable.

My wife has an irrational fear for animals, and that include dogs of any size. Many times, on the streets, a dog would approach to sneeze or play, but my wife gets really scared. We have to force the dog away with the feet, and all the time the owners would say "don't worry, he just want to play".

So what? Do I have to play with your dog just because he wants? Don't you understand not everybody like dogs? Don't you understand I don't like dogs leaving dog hair in my trousers? Don't you understand I don't like dogs staining my trousers with their feet? Don't you understand I don't like dog's saliva on my trousers? Don't you understand that my little kid don't see a playing dog, but a beast approaching and he has been scared to death?

I like dogs, all animals in general, but I don't have any at home. I don't have fear for domestic pets, but it doesn't mean I have to like them. One of my neighbours -I live in an appartment- used to have a cat. Many times the cat would sneak out of his home and remain in the doorway. When we got in and the elevator door opened, we would find a cat arching his back, ready for attack, for having been caught with no way out. We had to move slooooowly to leave him an escape and got to our door. One day, when we got out home, the cat was in the doorway, but instead of getting away, he got into our home! My wife was frantic! And I was irate. The cat started to jump from sofas to chairs, and climbed up the curtains! I shouted my neighbour: Come get your cat or I'll kill him! She came running, really humbled and asking for apologies, got the car, continued the apologetic, and left. Next day she came back to offer more apologies, and in a few days she got rid of the cat.

The neighbour who lives above me has got every kind of pet for the daughter. From parakeets to hamsters, turtles, cat, you name it. Every summer, when they go out for vacation, I have been asked to feed the pets, which I have done with no qualms. Then happened one thing: the cat bite me! He was scared and I used to move slowly, not to scare him. It was summer, I was wearing shorts, and the cat bit me and flew! I called my neighbour asking when was she coming back. I didn't want to tell her anything, not to make her feel bad, but she asked me what was wrong and I had to tell what happened. She apologized, but it was still six days and it was way too much time for not coming back and checking food and water.

So we agreed I would get upstairs once more in three days, and that would be enough until she came back. That day, I put on jeans, jersey, a thick coat, a wool hat -trying not to leave any skin exposed- and an umbrella that would help me to keep the cat at a safe distance. So I came out of the door -remember it was summertime- and another neighbour gets out of his appartment, with his bathing robes, going down to the swimming pool.

His face when he watched me was priceless..... :-)

Geez Raul, you better not come to Oz, this place is full of big scary cats and dirty, playful dogs! (not to mention huge crocodiles, deadly snakes and spiders, man eating sharks, venomous jellyfish etc............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I think that both children and dogs that are taken out into public places that aren't meant specifically for either children or dogs should either be trained well enough to behave in a socially acceptable way or held close enough to their parent/owner that they can't do any damage.  My children are 2 and 4 years old and they both know that when we're in a store they are not allowed to touch any of the merchandise or fixtures unless they have permission.

some animals are just a pain in the axxx, because their owners attribute
human traits to them and the animals actually do not have them.

case in point: my daughter has a large dog that is "playful" to her,
but a pain in the butt to us.

Or get all huffy when you ask them to stop their dog from barking all night.  "Well, he is a watch dog and must have seen something." Yea, right, all night.
It is the owners,  obnoxious owners train obnoxious pets, be they dogs, cats or as in Terry's case:  every dangerous animal known to mankind.

...Larry

Ha ha, I've got an old kelpie who will turn 17 this year (if she makes it, she's pretty wobbly on her feet, plus she's half blind and almost deaf) but she doesn't bark, and never has. Don't get me wrong, you wouldn't want to be in our yard with her if you weren't invited, her bite is (or was, I suppose) much worse than her bark. We've been in our own house for the last 10 years since I retired from the Army, and sadly, my neighbours on one side of our house had a little yappy dog that would bark long and often, only a few yards from my kids bedroom windows. They were nice folks, and would take it inside to shut it up when I'd yell at it over the fence, but nice as they were, I didn't miss it when they sold up and moved away.

You can imagine my horror when our new neighbours (nice folks again) brought a little yappy four legged toilet mat with them, that just barked 24/7. I'd yell at that little fcuker until I was blue in the face, but the owners are rarely home, so it'd just retreat to a safe distance from me, and continue barking. The neighbour on the other side of the fence would yell at it too, but to no avail. I had a chat with my neighbour about it, and he apologised profusely, but because they were away so often, the noise pollution continued.

Occasionally, God smiles on the wicked. Last February, we had torrential rain that caused flooding all over Melbourne. Our houses are built into a slight hill that slopes down into a creek in the park behind. When it floods the water torrents down the hill into the creek, which turns into rapids worthy of the movie "Deliverance", which in this case, is quite apt. Sometime during the storm, that poor little pooch was somehow swept away, never to be seen, or thankfully, heard from, again.

While my neighbours were gutted, I was quietly ecstatic. They searched everywhere, put adverts in the local newspaper, put  posters up on poles, doorknocked the neighbourhood, but sadly, that little fcuker never returned. I worried for a few weeks that the little bastard would be found, alive and well, and in excellent voice, but I'm happy to report that my fears were unfounded. I can now sit here and hear just my TV or stereo, and my kids can sleep again. If they get another hairy little noise maker, I'm not going to wait for God to smite the little #$%*, I'm just gonna screw the silencer back on my .22.............. ;D

Ha ha, I was talking to the wife about what sort of dog I'll get when my Kelpie turns up her paws Larry, and we both agreed that she (the Kelpie, not the wife) is an ideal size for our yard, and an excellent temperament. I'd rather a stealthy dog than a noisemaker. Noisy dogs are like car alarms, no-one pays any attention to them, they're just annoying. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I can't believe that there's anywhere in the U.S. that doesn't have laws prohibiting dogs in restaurants or grocery stores( anywhere there is food) unless it's a service dog.  Just snap a pic with your phone, and then tell the manager that unless he does something, you'll call the Health Department.

Don't get me wrong.  I am a dog owner.  I just know the law, and agree why it is a law.  I love to frequent restaurants with outside seating so my dog can join us.  There are even some places that have canine items on the menu.

I've thought about that, we got Sally (the Kelpie) about a year before Ben (German Sheherd/Kelpie cross) died, and I think she was good company for him, but old Sally's pretty unsteady on her feet now, so I worry about a boisterous puppy unintentionally hurting her? I'll think some more about it though, it's a good suggestion, thanks. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Saturday morning a lady at our regular breakfast hangout was holding a dog. The waitress said she had a tag hanging around her neck that said it is a service dog, she has anxiety attacks if she can't have her dog with her.
Sorry, but go to a drive up. Jeeez. I do have a dog. I don't want him sitting at the table.

Agreed some people push the tolerance boundaries, 'cos 'their more important' than you 'cos they have an imagined disability. Fill-in a form and get a licence to be an as*hole.... bring yer dog where it doesn't belong and , hey, use your grandma's handicapped hanger and park in the H/C space... see it all the time by folks with their full physical capabilities.... makes me mad and sad  :(
