Help! in So Cal
« on: December 31, 2011, 10:07:57 AM »
Rust Bucket is a beauty to behold on the outside but trouble lurks within.  I just had a guy stop me on the road and told me my bike was on fire.  Another guy said he did not know the 750 was a two stoke.  I got smoke.  I did new rings, pistons, boring and a complete valve job during my restoration but I did something wrong.  Compression is in the 90 to 110 range.  I hear noises coming from the transmission as well.  I have to pull the motor.  Ideally I'm looking for one of our members who wants to make some cash and help a brother out by assisting me with the tear down.  I don't want to make the same mistakes.  The alternative is to find a shop you guys trust that will help diagnosis my problems so I can start on the right track.

I'm in south Riverside County, have good tools, great garage and a well stocked refrigerator.  All I need is the brains!  Can anyone help?

I put some oil scraper rings in upside down once in my early days on an 836 RC kit and that thing was a real smoker for awhile till I did it again correctly.Second time must have been a charm as I still have it over 25 years later.

Which way does the step in the scraper go, up or down? No writing on any of the rings?

Thanks for the referral!  I'm really hoping to get someone to help me through this as I'd like to learn but will call those guys if I can't get some onsite help.

I don't want any cash but I can help you. I'm only 50 miles away down Ortega to the ocean. Like I said, PM me, email or give me your phone number. There are lots of things that could have gone wrong during your build, filing rings, orientation,,,, Did you do the work?
