Best cheap rideing jacket?
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:02:23 AM »
I'd buy and old one at a thrift store, but i'm fat, so that idea is dead.

Are the Under $150( perferably closer to 100) jackets decent? While I know you get what you pay for but I can't pay for much. :-\

Don't really care much about the style, Odd that the nylon ones are more expencive than a cheap leather. Are they possible to wear on a hot ( 90-110*) day, or will I shrivel up and die?

Next time you are in the big city hit Cycle Gear. Sign up for their flyers and coupons come occasionally. Got my first jacket there for good money.

SOMETIMES you can get SUPER good deals at Big Lots but you need to watch for them. My wife bought me a 100% leather coat more than 20 years ago that is styled like the US NAVY flight jacket for 40$, I still have it.
If you don't need a jacket right away for everyday riding, I'd wait till late spring up there in the valley because right now everyone needs a coat. The biggest thing to keep in your mind is. WILL THIS PROTECT ME. because if you go down wearing something of LOW quality material, you will wish you had spent a million bucks for  a Bradley Tank if you can buy one for that. Get the point??
Trust me, the people that say, you don't need to wear CHAPS or some leg protection, have never slid 50' on their knees in LEVIS, just to add more protection!!

Yes, you can get a decent jacket for under $150 for sure.  I got my Tourmaster Pivot on clearance a couple of years ago for $100....it's an armored jacket with a toasty zip in liner, but in the summer time, you can unzip all of the vents and let the breeze in.  Love that jacket.  Keep an eye out for clearance deals online at Denniskirk.com, Motorcyclesuperstore.com, Motorcyclegear.com, etc.    You're likely to find something on clearance as the "new models" come out for spring...especially if you need a size other than just L or XL.  Good luck!

I just now got an e-mail from motorcycle super store (I get weekly specials e-mails) and there are several jackets on closeout....here's a great deal if you need something larger than an XL.

You need to go to Leather Up  I bought this for $99.00 and it would have easily cost me twice or more that locally.  Great quality  Order larger than your size.  They are heavy.

There are cheap cordura jackets on ebay. Colleague of mine bought zip over pants for fifty bucks and from what i have seen, they are prety sturdy. Same seller carries jackets too.

Very nice indeed. Heavy leather, removable liner, protective padding etc. This was called the One-O-One jacket.

Hate to charge shipping but it is rather large when folded.

Hmmm. I Might be interested. Kinda leery about trying something on without trying it though. I wear 3x t-shirts, so It probably would fit. if you don't mind me asking, what size t-shirt do you wear?

I finally figured out the replies.  ;D

I purposely bought this jacket extra large so as to layer clothing underneath it and to have longer sleeves. I usually buy a XL T-shirt but clothing is different depending where in China it was made.  ;D

Your best bet is to go to Alpinestars website and check there measurements. Would love to move this jacket as the 350 F project needs additional funding. It just hangs in the closet.

Best to send a PM as I am not always checking here.
