How far can I bring the forks up?
« on: January 01, 2012, 08:12:12 PM »
I am thinking about Euro bars for my next build but I want to lower the front end by bring the forks up through the trees. Will I be able to do this with euro bars or will the forks just hit the bottom of the bars?

On my CB750, with euro bars, the tubes would hit at about 1 inch or less. This is more than enough to affect the handling, good or bad depending on what you are going for.

If you're trying to lower more for looks, you'll likely need to look hard at the bars, and maybe use clipons.

I was thinking of maybe using something like this and then going with drag bars. These would hopefully bring the bars back enough for the forks to clear them. What do you think?

Yup, that could do it. Always liked GenMars stuff.

Next you got to worry about kinking your brake lines, or your fender hitting the lower tree. Besides the possible nasty handling.

i say lower the trees till they almost touch but i wouldnt go more than 1.5 inches you can pick up some shorter forks at cycle x
i say lower em with out the bracket and do some riding( like 1k miles) and see what you think... then decide what you want to do

If you switch to 77/78 750 trees they slide right up, I have run them up 2 inches.
If you switch to clipons and want a different look, with stock tres, you may be able to flip the top upside down...

Are 750 trees a straight swap onto a 77' 550k?

If any difference stem is linger meaning a spacer on top wsill try to check today.
Also I think 500 has a lot of down offset on top tree mare than a 750.. so with the swap you can get it to look like it was not dropped if you only lower an inch or so..
