1973 CB500 Clutch Plates
« on: January 05, 2012, 11:32:59 AM »
Does anyone have the specs on the stock clutch plates (thickness).  I think the OEM plates are six of one size and the middle one is supposed to be thicker.  The ones on my bike appear to be all the same size and don't look like there is excessive wear.  But I want to put a micrometer on them and check before I put it back together.  I think the clutch problems were the result of a broken push rod and adjuster.  I'm making the pushrod myself and have replaced the adjuster with new.  Thanks to some previous posts on the pushrod, I'm making it from some 3/8" dia. drill stock at 10-1/8" long.

Thanks!

I think they're all the same size.. but I put mine back together in the order of disassembly so I didn't have to worry about it. Regardless, @Dave500 probably knows for sure :)

the later of the 550 had that sort of twin plate steel in the middle, the 550s also have one odd friction disc that is the outside one,the 500s have all the same size plates and steels,if you can see those dimples on your steels theyll be ok,youll see they have a sharp and a rounded edge from being pressed out of a sheet, stack them all the same way around when you re assemble it,these plates have been sand blasted.
