More greetings from Australia
« on: December 28, 2011, 01:24:50 PM »
Hello all,

Like many others who have joined the forum I have been reading some great info on the site for a while and finally have bit the bullet and bought a CB400F project bike.

Youtube clips of the CB400F in action have in some way inspired me to get back into spirit of owning one.

I live in Queensland on the east coast of Australia and have started the hunt for parts (the list is long) to get the bike back to original condition. This is my 3rd CB400f, first one purchased in 1977 new, the second in 1993 and now the latest one last week. The search in Australia for parts is not very productive but it would seem that a lot of parts can be sourced in the US and UK. Anyway hopefully the members will be able to help solve a couple of mysteries that the bike has but will need to get the photos uploaded before I do that.

The bike needs a new exhaust system and a tank, so can anyone share their experiences with the tanks from Asia or is there any other location that has them. It seems that finding replacement exhausts is going to be difficult. Anyway any tips/hints would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Brookland Bob  :)

Ah yes the gauges, I believe Honda 400 Hawk.  They are enclosed in a plastic surround which I have removed. I want to get it all back to standard but found why it was all changed. (There is always a reason), It was all done because one of the lugs that holds the instrument stay is broken. I have a new steering head coming so I can start with replacing them.  I have old gauges from a 175 honda so am hoping to transplant the inners to the old gauge outers, That will be a whole new adventure no doubt. I have some new facias coming so will renew the old layout at the same time,,,one day. All my Honda 400F xmas presents to myself are starting to turn up so am thinking that it is time to get the engine out and start painting the frame..Anyway will catch up with you later. Bob
