Is anyone else having difficulty opening images in Firefox?
« on: January 02, 2012, 11:19:16 AM »
It seems that the server is passing SOME image links as "index.php" and Firefox (as well as IE) won't open them in the browser window. If you click on the thumbnail, IE picks up the "index.php" and won't open the JPG; if you click on the link, IE8 pops up a window asking how you want to "save" or "open" the image.

However, neither the thumbnail nor the link will open the photo full-size in Firefox. IN SOME INSTANCES...

For instance, the images in http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=85157.0 do not load at full size. However, the images in http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=98071.0 DO! This occurs in both Firefox7 and IE8.

Interestingly enough, in the either browser, results vary depending on the thread:

works: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=98071.0;attach=166181;image
doesn't work: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=98071.0;attach=166181

doesn't work: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=85157.0;attach=142361;image
doesn't work: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=85157.0;attach=142360

So, the question is: What is the difference between these two threads, 98071 and 85157, if the image path beiing passed is the same?

Is there something in the "posting" dialog box that is different between these two threads?

Any comments/observations/suggestions, Glenn? Thanks. RR

I'm having the same issue.firefox asks if I want to open or save, if I select open it makes me select the program).  Based on a small amount of research I concluded it was something to do with some code on the server that needed to be changed to resolve.

It has nothing to do with your browsers guys, its something to do with the way the poster has loaded the pictures, doesn't happen all that often but its annoying when it does.   RR in that link you put up,  the pics on page 3 load normally....

I've noticed the problem.
It seems to only occur for me with older threads that perhaps existed prior to a forum software update.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Yes, my research also concluded that the problem is server-side. My purpose in posting was that I hoped Glenn reads these threads and could follow up. I finally installed an add-in to Firefox that allows me to save large photos, albeit with two extra steps.

Regarding the past update of the site... Certainly there are problems with accessing photos uploaded much earlier, but the threads I mentioned in my posting only go back nine months or so. Maybe Glenn with check with his hosting admin and find out if a possibly newly-install version of PHP requires some adjustment of the SOHC image path or maybe Database mapping.  All I know is, it shore don't work like it usta!!!

And as long as I'm ranting... I still don't know why my "notifications" come into my email infrequently and sporatically. I hope the site isn't paying much for their hosting. Otherwise, somebody's taking it in the shorts for support!  Oh, well.  At least it doesn't time out like it did in the "bad old days." RR

If you want Glenn to see this you should post in the Forums & Website Feedback section.
