Whats with the "Arcade Web" advertisements ?
« on: January 02, 2012, 08:54:04 AM »
They are popping up on posts on key words...highlighted in red. If you roll over it they pop up....very annoying. DAG ! they are even on the word "preview" right under "Attachments and other options" tab...

What platform are you using and what browser. I have no such problems. Are you running any sort of anti-virus or anti-malware utilities? Sounds like a local, rather than forum issue. If you can provide other more specific examples, we glad to look at those as well.

I think it is on your end, no problems with that or any word that I can see. Sure your software is active? When was the last full scan?

What about the hot linking Bob, i have noticed recently that words like Engine, ebay, cylinder head, spark plugs  and others are appearing blue amongst the black text, when you click on them it takes you to ebay..?  Its not a bug at my end as my computer is like Fort Knox security wise.... ;)  Look at the words cylinder head and spark plugs in the first post...

Retro, all of the words you mentioned in your post are blue and if you roll over it it says "Link added by VigLink"  . might want to run a scan...

Sorry, no blue text or hot links when I view that post.  ???

Correction, tried the roll-over mentioned and sure enough it is a link embedded in the reference to the words mentioned and yes added by VigLink. I'll check with Glenn, wasn't aware of this.

If it were a problem on my system then you guys would not see it, it isn't spyware or anything like that it is an embedded program for advertising.... I have excellent security on my computer
Someone has installed it on the forum....

It's a little more involved, requires FTP to server and a bit of PHP knowledge to insert the script. My browser is really secure all scripts are blocked (especially any using cross site stuff).
I posted a tread for this as it has a small issue but the VigLink" script is harmless to your machines guys.

I think we're discussing two issues. The OP took care of his issue by running a scan.

Thanks I've added ghostery to check it out, in my case firefox and noscript are my friends but it looks like ghostery could help ID some of the shat out and save me some google work. ;)

I checked with Glenn and these are indeed implemented within the forum software. These are intended to produce revenue for the support of the forum. Glenn plans to review their worth at some point. In the meantime, I find them rather unobtrusive. If you are not interested in following such links, don't click on them.  ;)
