1970 f600 dump truck
« on: May 23, 2006, 04:54:39 PM »
I know this is way off base but I need help...I have a 1970 f600 dump truck that needs a transmission part that I canNOT find...on the front of the trans, there is a 4 bolt part that the input shaft goes through and the throw-out bearing rides on...I've pulled 2 other trans(later year) and they where close but not right...on the part are #226943 and then#4125...if anybody can guide me in the right direction , I would be very grateful...thanks

How ironic.   The neighbors at work abandoned a mid 70,s truck of that size.   I think engine is out will check it out in morn.   That part is the front bearing retainer I believe.

Just looked.  No go.   The ford is a f600 but the engine and tranny is in it.  The lose trannys in back one is missing the retainer and the other had diff #'s.   Whats wrong with yours?

where the collar or shaft that the throwout bear rides, it is broken from the rest of the plate or housing...I have tried wielding but the metal is so fragile(pot metal) it just breaks...if all fails I might have to get a machine shop to make me one but I imagine that will be expensive

Ok this one I know... You need to keep trying Ford Dealerships. Any parts man worth his salt should be able to come up with the part. How about shooting one off to Middleton Ford and see what they can find....??

I used to work in the service department and I know the parts guys are real sharp....

Actually Duster, you are inncorrect. :P
Ford sold it's Class 3-8 heavy duty line to Sterling as of 1998..
Sterling is owned by DiamlerChrysler, as is Detroit Diesel, Freightliner, Western Star, etc...
I know because I sell them, not because I am smart  ;D

I am aware that Sterling bought the Class 8 stuff, but the Sterling Acterra was also bought from
Ford, as it is a CLASS 5 truck, not an 8.

Ford's F-650 & F-750 is in the Class of 5-7.
Thats as big as Ford produces anymore.

Word on the street (here at work) is that Streling is changing it's logo next year , to get farther away
from being associated with Ford. It will still be some sort of "S", just not the exact same size as the ford oval...

If all that fails there is a big truck J/Y about 25 miles away in Hudson CO called Active.
As much as I wouldnt like it I could ride the bike out and scrounge through their #$%*.
Only thing worse would be having a beer. ;D

From http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=20574

"Led by the F-350 through F-550 conventional cab models, Ford holds about 40 percent of the total commercial truck market. Ford’s commercial truck line includes F-250 through F-750 pickups and chassis cabs, as well as E-Series van, wagon and cutaway models."

The F-250 through -550 are made here in Louisville at the Ky. Truck Plant.

Thank God you clarified that one! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
