Grrr, Some people!!!
« on: January 03, 2012, 01:52:17 AM »
I had a callout to  have a look at a truck while in work today, and while I was laying under it I noticed the front wheel of an old bike poking out around the corner of the shed at this guys place, I asked a couple of questions about it , and found out it was an old '54 triumph 500cc, I then started quizzing the guy about it, and basically he told me he didn't want it but wouldn't sell it of even give it away, he just wanted to see it sit there and rot, like I said Grrrrrr some people >:(

Morons! When I had a '49 Chevy pickup two of the wheels corroded beyond use. I passed one sitting there rusting away every day and stopped and asked if he would sell me a wheel or two. "Oh no! I couldn't do that! It's a collector's item and will be worth a fortune one day!" Really? Sitting outside on four flats rusting away to nothing? I found an old farmer with 2 or 3 of these trucks and he happuily sold me two wheels for $20 each. But a vintage Triumph? Sacrilege!

My dad picked up a 5 window which sat out in the Missouri weather for years. Needless to say, it was rusted beyond recognition. He got it in hopes of working on it but now it just sits in his garage. At least it's not dying outside  ::)

I hope to move into my own house soon so I can set up a workshop. I might have to steal the Chevy and work on it my own. I just hate seeing old vehicles die.

yeah some people are funny about their stuff, even no good sort of stuff,i latched onto an older bloke who has 500/550 stuff lying about all over the place a couple of years ago and he is good to deal with,he rides a 550 and still has a delapitated 500 he bought new!!,we have a chat etc,he has open gear cases/heads and tools laying in the dirt and rain and is all past repair,,most is inside with those mud wasp things gone berserk in the unplugged inlets and exhausts,i dont get how "SOME PEOPLE"like to see others suffer by letting any old thing what ever it is just decay and think its worth more that way?over the years in my wheelings and dealings a seller or two has said something like"these are worth a fortune in good condition,,or "done up"or similar and as soon as ive tried to bargain they want the "done up "price for the thing?man?some people alright.

I think it gives some (otherwise powerless) people a sense of power when they have something that other people want.

I know a guy that has an early hemi, he always wants to talk about selling it but wants more than it would cost to build today. Even though it was gone through 40 years ago.

I'm thinking about doing something of the sorts, he wants to shorten the chassis of his truck to turn it from a tipper into a prime mover, and wants me to do the work for him, I'm thinking we can strike a deal... fingers crossed

Keep bugging him that you want to buy it.  That way, when I steal it, he'll suspect you.   ;D
