Based on the many fine examples of engine hoists I found here in the forum, I made one from 1" iron water pipe per the dimension listed here. No welding or special fabrication. I used a four wheel block and tackle to lift the motor by myself. In the past I've laid the frame over the engine on the floor but didn't want to take everything apart again - just wanted to swap motors.

Below are the examples I found here as examples. Mine is the first made from threaded pipe.

No. That's a completely differant topic 8) . I'm pulling this motor to replace it with a motor from my red K1 which is getting the 836 motor that Hondaman just finished and is sending me. I put a shameless picture of that motor on the SOHC4shop.com home page, http://www.sohc4shop.com/catalog/index.php which I administer . So that's why I wanted a hoist to juggle all the motors. The 850 is 'coming' along slowly.

It will be interesting someday to hear how the 850 Cyclex kit compares to the 836 Hondaman put together.Good future thread material.

Well there will likely be no comparison. The Hondaman engine is essentially brand new from the ground up with with new bottom end, head job, de-shrouding, cam and all those mysterious things he does. The 850 is just that, a big bore. Probably will run hot and not last very long but I'm just learning so it's a bit of an experiment for me. The 836 I expect to have for quite some time.

I just wrap this strap under the middle of the right side, around the dyno and loop through above the starter near the center. It balances nice and you just have to push in a little when you lower it due to the strap touching the frame. i wondered if it would tip foreward but hasn't yet.

The chain in the picture is just the loop chain from the hoist.

Did Hondaman use the "cheap eBay 836 kit" on your rebuild?

Yes he did. Said he'd used them a number of times before without issue. Also said they are 95 percenters meaning they need a little TLC before use which he documented somewhere here. A lot of chatter here about them. Cheap has such negative connotations. I'd prefer to say they were a good deal. I noted over in the cheap 836 thread that I'd let you know what I think but seriously, it's a Hondaman engine.  Gonna be great.

Can you get the motor out of the frame with that approach? It certainly is the simplest but the big C is designed to let you slide the engine into the frame or the frame away from the engine.

A HondaMan built 750 engine sounds interesting, especially with the all tricks he has up his sleeve that I read about in his book. ;D

Which cam did you or HondaMan decide on for your 836 build and why was the grind selected? I assume this is for a street application. Thanks!

The cam discussion was lengthy but finally decided on a K0 cam for the street rather than the mild web cam for many reasons which made sense to me.
