400F valve rocker arm springs
« on: May 22, 2006, 12:21:30 PM »
does anyone know which side to fit the rocker arm springs, I bought a dismantled engine so no previous guide, looking at wear marks on the castings it appears the exhaust side maybe different to inlet side. A photograph would be really helpfull. :)

After your first assembly, set the valve clearances and then visually check that the rocker tappet screws hit the centre of the valve shaft face. If one is way off centre, the spring is probably wrong.
Racers often 86 the springs and shim the rockers to hit the valves dead centre. It's a pain but can be worth it, the rockers can even move against the spring at high RPM.
