Good Luck Scout, you're one of the many looking for that part.  The only source I've found is David Silver Spares in the UK, they have both side covers for 30 pounds plus shipping.

Thanks for the post, but the 77 and 78 SS have different covers than the 75 and 76, Dennis Kirk doesn't show our covers so I stand by my earlier post.  (Thanks anyway...)

Supersports seem to suffer the fate of no aftermarket sidecovers.  The 550F is the same way.  Only way is used or NOS.

Well, it's not all supersports, replicas are available for the 75 and 76, it's the 77/78 that's a bear.  So who got the pair on Ebay last night?  Was that you Scout?  I'm sick that I didn't bid, but it's a real tight payperiod and I've already blown my ratholed bike money for the time being.  Someone got a pair of real decent 77/78 sidecovers with badges for $51 US.

Has anyone tried re-welding the sidecover mounts on the f2 to fit different sidecovers?

Man, that really stinks then, I saw your rather cryptic post last night about outbidding and that's when I went to Ebay to see what you might be bidding on,  I was really hoping that you were the one that got them.  Ah, well C'est la vie!

It's a rather interesting idea that Computronic came up with, I wonder if it's ever been tried?  Does anyone know what other sidecovers (hopefully from a more common and affordable bike) might make a worthy candidate for such a frankenstein approach? ???

Scout,  I got a set from DS.  The left was the aftermarket "pattern" part.  It's heavier, and appears more durable.  The right one was original Honda, I glassed the back before painting.  Expensive as hell, though.

Why is everyone looking for a left-side cover for their '77-'78s?  My '77F came with THREE spare right-side covers, but no left at all.  I've seen another F around town, a '78, that is also missing its left side cover.  On eBay i've seen pairs listed separately and the left usually goes for twice what the right did.  Is this just a coincidence?  Or is there something strange going on....?

Nope, nothing strange, just the same old flimsy 20 year old Honda side covers, EXCEPT that the Left side cover is unique to the 77 & 78 750 Supersports, the right side is also used on (if I remember correctly) the 75-78 supersports, but the left one was only made for 2 years.  With such a low number of bikes, none of the usual aftermarket folks make this cover (except for DSS).  There was a fiberglass company in Australian that did for a while, but they no longer list it.

My big question is the large number of newbies that are all restoring 77 & 78 supersports now (including me!)

Back in the early 80's when I first broke my left side cover, I made a plaster mold of the repaired piece.  I cast the cover in fiberglass cloth.  The cast came out looking very good and required little work to clean up the one layer shell.   I was satisfied at the same time that the repair of the original part was strong enough and discontinued working on the new fiberglass piece.  Now that I have repaired the left side again, I am thinking of making another mold and making another standby replacement for the ever weak side cover.  If I do go ahead with this project, I will post showing materials and process.

Take Care
