Oil lines and fittings for a custom oil tank?
« on: January 10, 2012, 02:31:59 PM »
I'm building a custom oil tank for my CB750 (see pic - and yes I can tape like a pro!) and i'm wondering if anyone knows a good source for fittings and oil lines. I did scavenge the fittings from the old lines and tank, but they look ratty.  I want something that blends in with the engine so as not to draw attention to the lines themselves. I've seen what looks like black braided stainless steel that looked really clean.  I also know that there are several different types of fittings to choose from (AN, JIC, NPT etc.) so if you have opinions on the best, please share.  Also, the tank will be steel not aluminum.

Check out bung king, and look under oil tanks. This might give you an idea of some common sizes that they use. I have no idea what the stock fitting sizes are but if you are making a custom tank you can make up your own fitting sizes that suites your own needs.

I checked the post you mention, and saw pics of the bungs you made (very nice), do you also make the oil lines or were you just talking about the filler?

I found a few items on Cycle Xchange. They have a small selection of NPT fittings and plain black hose, but I would still like to find a source for something with a little more style.

I just made those last week, could make one out of steel.. I think the tappet cap is a neat thing to use.
Most oilines you can put together tourself, with AN stuff... can probably make the fittings if you cant find something you like or want something different.

If you can lift those pics and move the ( or one of them)m to this thread I would appreciate it, could maybe get some work..

So it looks like you have access to some machining equipment. I dont need a filler bung but i'm sure I'll need some other parts made as the project progresses.  Do you have a mill?  I also posted those pics below for you.
