I think there is a company in Italy that makes these systems

I think Freddy Spencer ran these on his Super bikes but I cant seem to find any info on these
Wes Cooley ran a Denso system that was self generating (I think)

Sorry for not being sure on these but there are systems out there

good luck

excuse my electrical ignorance, but what's the benefit to adding one of these over stock? Don't we have self generating? Would these power lights or just for racing?

These are just for racing; they power only the ignition. No lights, no battery, no electric starter.

I've used these a lot TG and as Simon says the PVL ones are excellent. I prefer Rex Caunt's versions if I can afford them as he keys the rotor so removing any setup issues and making it a doddle to install and maintain. Rex has his own website www.rexcauntracing.co.uk

I think there's a company in the UK called electrex who do generic kits, they are cheaper than some but not sure how well they work.

If you want dedicated Honda raceware though, D&M engineering do all sorts of self generating kits for Honda classics. They should be through www.d-mengineering.co.uk. Ask for Dave and tell him I sent you! :-)

HPI (in Belgium) and Electrex (In the UK) are partners.
Some of the parts they are selling are made by HPI, other parts are made by Electrex.

massimo, just called me to thank for the info you all forwarded.

from what i understood he is building a race 500/4 to parade only, but wants to make it a sort of replica. the nice bit is that carlo murelli from Samoto in  Rome, the only non japanese engineer who ever worked on the NR500 is building his motor.

he must be pretty old by now, like close to 80. back in the 70's he was regarded as the top 400/4 500/4 tuner in italy, nice to know he is still building stuff :)

sure not, but i believe that murelli was the only foreigner who worked on the exotic motor and actually saw what was going on inside. he was one of the team's traveling mechanics

the steel frame came later after they tried the crazy monococque

coming to think of it, was quite like the Ducati GP frame. funny how people refuse to learn from history......
