Yummy.

I always heard bear wasn't good to eat, especially during the time of year of eating spawned out salmon.

Other people said you could get a couple good hams off of them. They were the shoot at anything types, and as long as they used it I'm cool with that.

Other guys I saw hanging a bear out got it in bow season, perhaps, with a bow anyway and were more interested in the skin, but I hope they made some stew, too.  They were the type that prolly they did.

I have no need for a bear, and doubt if I ever tasted one unless it was at the Chinese restraunt in Juneau, perhaps it was served as "broccholi beef."

YES , I would!
Just because SOME people say Bear meat isn't good to eat ,is because THEY have NEVER eaten Bear meat .
This whole subject ways on WHAT part of the WORLD you live in!! Would YOU eat WHALE ?? Probably not because you don't live in NORTHERN ALASKA but PEOPLE have survived on it for YEARS!!
Here's a list of other foods YOU may not think EATABLE!
KANGAROO
HORSE
OSTRICH
SQUIRREL
POSSUM
HAGGIS
If ANYONE on this board was to be placed in a SURVIVE or DIE situation you would REALLY be surprised WHAT you WILL eat, EVEN HUMAN MEAT to survive!!!
For most that have NEVER seen the GREEN side of their concrete jungle they live in would be SURPRISED at what they have ALREADY eaten just because IT fell in the MEAT grinder by mistake .
OPEN your minds , There is a lot more to this WORLD than JUST MEAT and POTATOES.

I'd rather eat bear than McD!
Seriously, American eating "culture" is beyond me, even after all the years I live here. Everyone seems to rather eat over processed crap (literally) than a high quality "strange" food.
Same with beer...  ;D
And horse is delicious, by the way!  :)

But rotting meat in a walk in cooler is not about taste...

Yes I agree about the ROTTEN stage, NOT EATABLE.
But most ALL meats are AGED to allow the enzymes to break the fats down and tenderize.
A GOOD T-BONE can be AGED up to a WEEK by DRY air and it is not considered ROTTEN. ALL DEER.ELK,MOOSE are left hanging after a field dress in order to AGE the MEAT.
I learned after spending 20 years in the US NAVY ( going to countries all over the world)  NEVER ask WHAT you are eating. BE Surprised and MOST times it was VERY DISRESPECTFUL and RUDE to ask your DIGNITARIES WHAT you were eating!!!

I wouldn't mind if it had been processed and in the freezer. Laying around the cooler? Probably not.

Add Crocodile to that and i have eaten them all. Exotic meats can be a bit "gamey", strong flavored but there's nothing wrong with them at all.... ;)  All meat is edible, people just have to get their heads around it....

I never tasted muk-tuk but I heard it is nasty. A friend says it is like very fishy tasting blubber, he coud hardly hold it down.

The best part of the article is that the owner actually said she "forgot" there was a bear in the cooler!
WOW....That would be a good reason not to eat there.  If someone forgets about the bear in the cooler, what else is being forgotten?
