Worlds Toughest Gasket

I've pulled apart my beloved CB750 KO to refresh the top end.
On doing so, I've uncorked a foe greater than Godzilla and Superman combined.

This thing is super natural...

The cylinder gasket will absolutely not peel off.
Not with razors (not that I like using them), 3m gasket remover pads, scrapers or chemicals.

Next stop C4, napalm and bullets.
Suggestions welcomed

I would find a chemical stripper in your area an drop t off to them. in az cost would be around 15.00

For the really tough ones I use 3m scotch-brite roloc pads on my die grinder.  You have to be pretty careful you don't hurt the aluminum, but sometimes it's the only way. 

Or, you could get the Japanese army to start shooting kryptonite bullets at it.

I ran into a similar gasket last week on my K3 and Permetex foam gasket remover with the brushed helped out quite a bit.  I used a gasket scrapper and razor blades for a few days followed by the Permetex to get ride of the remaining bit.  This was recommended to me by Hondaman and really helped.  I was considering putting a k6 top end beacause the scrapping was so bad.  This really helped.

This gasket seems to be impervious to Permetex Remover, JB Blaster, razors, scrappers, heat...

Have you tried some heat, it may loosen the bond between the gasket and the case...

have you tried denatured alcohol or acetone I know it would probably give up to MEK but that stuff is major bad for you I have run into some of those gaskets that were put on with some sort of shellac gasket sealer and the heat from the engine turns it into some sort of super glue the best advice I can give you is find something that softens it and then soak it in it for as long as you can then scrapers and roloc discs

Today I'll look to buy paint stripper or acetone. Its just laughing at the Permetex.

I ever had to remove a gasket like this.The best way I found,maybe will not work for you,Is to preheat the part in a oven....

soak it in diesel fuel for about a week.  i have an old 60 quart cooler i soak parts in to help degreasse an prevent rust buiild from sittin on the shelf.  i change the diesel wekly, and run the used thru the tractor after filtering it.  have had several gaskets come free this way.

Netflix, and "The A Team" (season 1). I had to just sit there and razor mine off, bit by bit while watching the guys save the downtrodden, and being accused of a crime that they didn't commit.............

Aircooled motors are notorious for "combat locking" gaskets.

I just had one of those myself.   ::)  I've talked to a few people since and they swear by paint stripper.  Even with that I don't think it will remove all at once.  Good luck.

You forgot flame throwers  ;D
 The original Honda gaskets were self vulcanising, wood chisel was the only thing I found useful and treat it like hardwood.
Still a PITA
 Soaking in acetone may work, I've never tried that (don't have a sealed steel drum to put it in, most plastic will/should dissolve and just painting it on makes the air smell funny  ;))

Add pressure washer...
Gonna give that a "shot" today. Maybe 2700 psi will blow it off.

Pressure washer now has been used in my assault.
Fairly affective, but not the absolute answer.

After about 30 mins of blasting with the 0 degree point, this is what I am left with...

Next stop, I send in more chemical warfare and scrappers...  :P

Winner!

Here's what works best.

1.) spray with paint remover and sit for night
2.) Pressure wash off or scrap if you have no other means.
3.) buff off remaining with 3M gasket remover to shine

Hope this help someone in the future for a gasket removal process.

Hey great job!  Looks like a terrific result.  Maybe you'd want to consider doing something in the tips section to help others in the future.  Wish I had known about the paint remover.  I have used the aluminum aircraft stuff in the past, but don't care for it burining my hands.  I would use this as a last restort though.
