Make them translucent, holographic, lit up with led's and just stick to the guage lens - you'll sell tons.

Make someone's gauges look like 3D holographic boobies, and they'll fly off the shelf  ::)

Are they "Sandcast"? ;D

Seriously, though, I've seen so many auctions shoot way up in price in just the last hour.

  • Bought her new 4/75
Try put a starting price of $30.00 on them. Reserve them at $40.00. They're better if they cost more !! Throw in some Yamaha carbs to boot!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

A friend of mine started a business of recycled toner cartridges some years ago. He told me he started selling them at about 20% of the brand name prices, but had to increase it to 80% or the people would think they were crap... Increase the price-increase the sells.

This is so true Raul. When I started my photography biz, people just did not get the idea of a "good" deal. I had to raise my wedding prices to the point of monetary rape to get people to pay attention and start using me. I was really just trying to move a bunch of these out of stock. On our website I made it clear just how far they are marked down...  ???

I agree. Install the gauge faces and the customers will come.
I know for a fact I don't feel confident to tear into my tach to change the face.
Will be the last time that Tach ever works... ::)

I was considering making a video to go with the faces. This video would show from start to finish on just how this process is done. Really, this install is not all that hard. Teal, you would have to get drunk, drop it, and then trip over it and stomp on it to kill it during this process. Even then it will problably still work. It takes about 1 hour to do your first one. Afterthat, they are simple.

I had even considered making the plastic faces and install them on the faces (like I did on my speedo because it was warped) and sell them as complete discs, no sticker fuss. Only thing with this is the fact that odometer and trip are transposed after K5. So I have to have yet another grouping to keep track of.

See I would install them but even more rare than the guy who will buy a set of faces, is the guy who is willing to pay a proper labor price to have it done. BTW.... I am one of those. That's why I do all my own stuff-too cheap to pay someone when I can figure it out.  ;D

" It takes about 1 hour to do your first one. After that, they are simple."

"You seem to have a market"
Teach some kid in the neighbourhood how to do it and sub it out.
Or pay him $10.00 per hour and sit him down twice a week to work on 10. You charge $60.00 re-re and make $500.00 per week. ;D

Any part of a good sales pitch is to  "Reduce it to the ridiculous"

Build it and they will come.
Not every one has the work space or the inclination "as posted above" , but they do have money. ching-ching

This may not be a half bad idea once I get the shop open. I think I could pay someone pretty well to do them up. Again THIS IS A REAL GOOD IDEA  ;D

There's really not much to taking apart/reassembling the gauges. I do not cut the chrome retaining ring, but used a Dremel and slightly opened up a length of 4 inch pipe that allows the gauge to be inverted and slides snugly into this pipe length that's mounted on a 12 inch by 12 inch piece of plywood. I've ground down a small flathead that will slide in between the ring and gauge casing. Then just a matter or slowly working around the ring opening it enough to slide past the lip on the gauge housing. A small drift closes the ring around the housing and gauge base after installing the new dials and repaint of the housing. Any minor flaws or ripples put into the ring are covered by the rubber mount that is in the chrome bases.
I was leery of using the JB weld or other types of glues that were recommended after slicing the chrome retaining ring.

And El - do you have factory stock appearing K2 and K3 faces yet?

Hey elcheapo sent you a P.M. on this. :) I know I have been one of them lookers for a time drooling and wanting and now the check is here let’s talk. ;D
Also if you or any one has a set or rings for them I could use them as my gages are taped together. do not care if rusty or any thing as they will get sanded and painted black when I am done or if any one has an Idea how to make new ones for cheap the word is cheap as I live on ssi and not fun not much extra that’s why I ride a yellow rat and not a shinny clean restore ;)
