Got the Laser cut gaskets over to Bills this weekend and he will check the fit on a motor

I sent the original set that Johnnycakes sent up to the laser cutter for deliver today
as soon as I hear from Bill about the fit, I will call the Laser cutter so he can start to measure the
thickness of each gasket and make a few sets
will keep all posted
Bill is looking into finding the "O" rings also
I will be doing the same

Jim

Good lad Jimmy, there are 12 sets wanted, might be worth getting a few extra cut for people that have not seen this yet.

Hi guys, Jimmy just phoned me, we should have the samples today, If they stack up to the standard of the Honda ones, we will get them made.
Jimmy  says they will be far cheaper than the OEM products. 8)
The next problem is matching up the various O rings and seals.

The countershaft sprocket seal is going to be hard/impossible to source, because of the 4 "feet" on the base that stand it off from the case. CMSNL has 2 right now, in case anyone's interested. The only alternative I've found is a 34x62x10. But you can't drive it all the way home, or it'll block off an oil hole on the shaft bushing. Seat it just deep enough so that 2 mm of the bushing extends past the seal's outer lip, and make sure the seal is square with the bore.

Quote from Jimmy,

got the gaskets in yesterday and they all look good
I did measure the one critical gasket and there is a +.020 difference in thickness
I called Mike about this and it wont be a problem. If the gasket was too thin, then
we would have a problem
going to get them to bills tomorrow but I need to carefully measure the "O" rings
and start to look for a suppler
will keep everyone posted.

Johnnycakes a big thanks for letting us use your original set to be the test mule on this
everything is still in the original package and in great shape. My laser cutter was very gentle

Hello Jim
I and some other Matic-owners over here are also interested in O-rings, seals and bearings.

We got the Matic-gaskets from Athena last spring, after some big problems with the seller on Ebay!
Thanks to Athena for their excellent service!

The snow is melting and .....  ;-)

Heippa Jukku,

Jim is looking for getting the O rings matched up, the gaskets are the only thing that will be coming soon.

I'll be at Alastaro in June/July if you would like to meet up.

How cost effective would it be to have non-auto specific gaskets laser-cut? I called the local Honda shop today to price a 750 cam-cover gasket. $31.70 plus tax (almost 10% here)!!!! I also priced a shifter-cover gasket a while ago at about $14....

Only Jim might know that at the moment Scott.

Here's another post from Jim.
I measured all the "0" rings and have 3 different company's quoting on this

I will have to wait until I get some pricing first as I will have to ship the other 3 gaskets
(2 large diameter and 1 triangle gasket) to the company who will (If we can afford it) make with others

I will meet with Bill hopefully later this week and give him the laser cut gaskets so he can get Sams bike done

I should know something by the end of the week on prices for the "O" Rings

I have the gaskets done and are ready to go to Bills.

I have also found a company that can find or has the "O" rings to complete the set
They are not a perfect match dimensionally  but very close. +/- .010 or less.
I need to send the really large 0 ring, the rectangular one and the oil filter O Ring to get
the measurements
If the owner of the original set will let me ship them the gaskets I will make sure they get returned in good order.

I am going to order enough gaskets and O rings to make about 50 sets

I will need to get some prices together but it should be very affordable for all.

Why not use waterjet cutting instead of laser cutting? Less pollution and smoke.

does anyone object to the starter plate cover O ring being a material other than rubber
all this does is seal out the water. I will talk to the laser cutter about using rubber but a
fiber gasket would be easier to cut and it will do the same thing
sending up all the O rings for final measuring and get everything ordered
sending up the starter cover O ring to the laser cutter and wait for feed back

thoughts on this please

For me - I'll buy that part from Honda, as it remains available (91312-MG7-003).
1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.
