'74 CB750 Project
« on: January 17, 2012, 09:48:31 PM »
Hi ya'll,
I m piecing together a orphaned '74 CB750 project that had new head work performed by a aircraft mechanic but my buddy never put the bike back together after stripping it all down to the frame so he could paint it. It's been sitting since '88.

I found a '76 CB750 with a rear disc brake. I was thinking that my old '76 had drums but it was a LONG time ago????

Anyways, I want to swap from rear drum brake to rear disc brake and I can get the wheels, complete brake system, and the swingarm from the '76 donor bike in one transaction and I was wondering if it would work and/or if I'm missing or need something else?

Thanks in advance,
-Joe

You'll have to get creative in mounting the rear brake master cylinder.  What you're buying are parts off the F model (Supersport) and the frames are different in that area. (F models don't have the "triangles" for passenger pegs, and they use aluminum bolt on brackets for the rear master and pegs) The swingarm will bolt right up to the K frame, though.

Since the bike is apart, if you have access to that whole 76 frame, that might be a better start to your project.  I'm in the midst of doing the same thing, and decided to start out with the F frame instead of modifying my K3.  It's entirely possible to modify your K frame to work for this, but if you want the rear disc, that's a much easier way to go, IMO.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the information Andrew. It gives me something to ponder.
