rear fender clearance
« on: May 07, 2005, 11:21:43 AM »
hey guys,on my 750 k1,the rear tire is very close to the fender on the left side, but i have plenty of clearance on the right side.is this normal for these bikes or do i have a problem.bear in mind the chain is tracking straight with the sprockets,so there is no problem there.any ideas would be welcome.

Can't speak directly to a K1, though not sure why it would be very different, but on my K0 the rear tire lines up pretty much dead-center with the fender.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Hi this is not uncommon - nor is it anything to worry about unless the tyre is actually rubbing. Is anything non-standard? Newish fender, repaired crash damage or anything?

hey guys,i will try to get some decent pics tomorrow, actually i put 2 inch shorter shocks and a 16 inch rim with a 510-16 tire on it and it does rub a bit near the bolt hole where the turn signal bolted to the frame/fender.i can trim the fender a bit a i think i will be ok,but i didnt want to do that until i figure i dont have any other serious issues to deal with.i rode it today and it handled fine so i dont think it is a frame issue.thanks for the input and any other advice is welcomed.

well, that sorta clears up the issue lol you can fit the 510x16, or the shorter shox....but not the two together lol You COULD search round for a 500x16 tyre but itll be hard to find, unless your happy to fit an old Dunlop/Avon sidecar pattern...why do you think you see these fitted on so many older customs using standard fenders????

If it was me id put the old stock length shox back on - thats how I run my K7....and I run a 140/90x16, wider than a 510x16 which is actually 130/90x16 nowadays. Believe me, on the road with your arse down on it, doesnt look very different lol
