Howdy from Cali! Intro, short story, and pixs within. :-)
« on: January 17, 2012, 09:55:25 PM »
Ok, my dad bought a Bryor(sic) Brown K2 CB750 in 72, new in Japan when the aircraft carrier has was on stopped over. "Wanda" went through many changes during his ownership, including conversion to a Pre-K, and all sorts of different configs over the years. Late 70's, he sold it to a friend of his who raced it at Sears point for a season, then a crash wiped out the left side of the case. Still have the original bottom end, has Carillo Alu rods too, and eventually will migrate back in after I weld up the case. Anyhow, my dad bought her back at that point, rode her for a few more years, then sometime in the late 80's he parked her and started disassembling. Then, she sat, until last year. I was digging through one of our containers and spotted Wanda in back. Almost 20 years of sitting did not do her justice, and I started bugging him about Wanda and his plans. Well, his original idea was a full blown resto. That would pretty much entail finding another bike, cutting the steering head off, and welding it to the donor, as there were many mods done to the frame. I figured "eh", and went shopping for my own CB750 to build. Then one day, he drops her off at my house. I went on a mad hunt to find him a bike to restore. More on that later. Its been a drink from a fire hose for the last year, but I've been loosly assembling Wanda as I plan out my route(put her back into the same config as when I was in elemantary school), but here she is, as she currently sits(lots and lots left to do):

Anyways, I turned up a bike I could not identify for my pops and got it for him for a whopping $500:

Over the next year we snapped up piles of parts and several other doner bikes. Then, my pops found, what will be a ringer when the proper stock bits get put in place, for Wanda when my pops uncrated and assembled her:

That left the red bike, which turned out to be a K1 up for sale. So, I bought her back for project "restified". She had a mishmash of late K and and K0 parts on her but she will for the most part be K1, not doing a resto, but collecting correct parts, and want her clean and reliab by this Spring so we can go for a ride together on a pair of 750's. Anyhow, here is how Rhonda currently sits:

A sample of parts taking up space in my garage, sorting bits to migrate onto the bikes, and the rest off to on of the bike storage units:

Yep, its was advertised as a Honda 750 Custom, and was listed for weeks. I forwarded the link to my dad and he literally screamed "BUY IT!!!!' after he saw the pics. I figured it would be a parts bike. I knew zilch about CB750's, and am still learning. I hauled arse 2 hours away, to the middle of a field with 2 lonely run down houses to meet the poster, a older gentleman who took the bike away from his 2 sons. He was forcing them to sell it because he though old bikes were dangerous.

Welcome from Texas. Great story, you are a quick learner!

Been around Hondas all my life. :-) Started riding a free CT90 when I was 12, and also turned up a Dax90 someone imported. Always wanted a S90, so 2 years ago slapped this together. Started with a rusty frame that someone drilled for a CT motor.

The formerly K1 bike isn't going to be correct shade, but sometime next week I'm dropping off the tank for 1 more coat along with getting the new side covers, headlight bucket, and K0 airbox painted. Tank will be wearing the gold stripes, cleared over for durability purposes. I know, not correct, but she will be a rider, not a garage ornament. ;-) Also need to order Benjies 4-4 system. On the way right now is Carpys 4-1 for the K2. Hope it shows up before my vacation starts!
