Deimos,

Generally speaking, the more you spend up front on the purchase, the less you you will have to spend afterward, a lot less.  Not sure of your skillet, but consider buying a runner.

I do understand where you are coming from Stev, I'm still just trying to figure out the "right value" for this and that..  I still know of the one guy with the running 550 with the #$%* seats but it's value isn't good apparently.  I'm just feeling this out as I go.

And there is no title for that barebones 500 I just found.

First G takes her home!

Don't do that. That is a $2K bike down here. Maybe you should ship it to me!

Depending on what other stuff he has, it could have potential, probably not as a project since it doesn't have a title, but if it's complete, it's a natural to part out. That front end by itself would get you $150 any day of the week, and I've bought more than 1 $100 spare motor for rebuilding, does that one turn over?..if those side covers are in decent shape, maybe $50 each? Swingarm, headlight bucket, fork ears, that speedo hanging by the cable.. but if "what you see is what you get", maybe more hassle than it's worth...gotta a place to store it until a titled frame with a missing front end comes along?

Title's a big plus, looks complete, chrome gauge covers and akront high shoulder rims!! def a project, price seems reasonable if he'll go a little lower,but...thought you weren't interested in 750s?  I'd be seriously tempted if I didn't have a couple other projects right now..offer him $350 and he gets to keep the seat and backrest... :D  seriously tho, this is the kind that will get snatched up quick by those sharks...i bet it's gone within a week

Well im kinda on the ropes in terms of 550 or 750.  And it appears 750's are easier to come by up here by a long shot and every 550 I've seen is either shady bad or overpriced :P.

Deimos how tall are you? Im 5'9 and have no problem touching the ground on the 750.... I would definately go look at it. If you dont mind the "newer" style 750.

A complete 750 w/title, buy it!  But be prepared to sink money in it, as least a grand.

If you've never ridden a bike, a 550 would be a better starter bike.

I'm short as hell, 5'4". But I've ridden high seat bikes like ducatis and such.  And yes I've ridden a bike before, the Harley in my signature isn't just for show :P.  I can handle a lager bike, one reason I'm for a 750 is more power.

750 may be pushing it for height. My dad is your height and he was over the other day to look at my 750. He couldnt touch the ground and he is an experienced rider of 40 years.

I just have to kick it to one side is all.  :P  It's like im doing the "Captain Morgan" stance but on a bike.  It's like this regardless on anything taller then my sportster, as I have no inseam.

My apologies, didn't know you had the HD.  For a rookie, the 750 would be heavy. And you do not need to touch both feet on the ground, I ride with my feet on the pegs!

Edit/
