Main jet/emulsion tube - this does come apart, right?
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:42:55 AM »
...out of a '73 or '74 750K carb. I'm going to replace the mains anyway so I'm not concerned about the damage, but before I grab it with some vice grips I wanted to make sure... This does come apart?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

That comes apart...might want to spray some penetrating oil where the jet screws into that emulsion tube before trying to remove the jet..a little heat would help too(like, warm it up with a hair dryer, spray the penetrating oil where the jet screws in,give it a sec to penetrate, then, using a flat blade screwdriver that fits the jet slot tightly, start turning it out slow)....Joe

yes........yes it does.

place the hex in a vise gingerly and if you don't care about the jet, remove with a screwdriver, or vise grips.

just don't ruin the emulsoin tube, they are very hard to come by......just ask me how I know this.

I just lined a bench vise with a paper towel, snugged it up in the vise where the flat spots are, and unscrewed the main jet. It took alot more force than I thought it would. The jet is in there pretty good. Don't use vise grips, you don't wanna mess up the emulsion tube.

Some pliers will have a small, circular notch near the nose for gripping round screw heads.  I have a set and they make it very easy to get stuff like this out without crushing or damaging them.
