Rare CB750 Exhaust: ITS ALIVE!

Just got this ultra rare Action-4 exhaust made for CB750's back in the early 70's. I cannot figure out how it mounts; it comes with 4 metal collar donuts that just slips over both lips on the headers but am I missing something?

There are probably 2 half moon shells per pipe that close around the header pipe and push the lip of the pipe into the head, by drawing down the pieces you do have towards the head.

I think the late model CBs 77+ used them. I'll go look.

If one were to agree that's the design, I'd take it to a Honda shop and ask to see their exhaust collars. They should all be in the general area of each other as they carry the same leading part numbers.

Some dealers arranged their parts departments by Honda codes, 5 digits rather than the 11 digit part number. If that's the case the collars will be scattered all over the dept and they won't want to help.

I guess I'll be hunting "split collars". DOHC used them, I think. And CB500/550's. Need correct diameter I guess.

And getting the pipe re-chromed, the finish now is crapola recent rattle-can. This is actually a beautiful pipe, my old CB500 had one.


 I'd like to make extra copies for the CB750 crowd. Anybody have experience making headers around here?

Yes, I like it. It has the "firing order swirl". The headers enter the collector in the firing order. This was never proven to be of any value, but its bragging rights.   :D

All CB500/550's used those half moon shaped shims.  They can be heated and bent to fit a larger diameter, custom pipe...like the Hooker 4-1 that will go on my 500 eventually.

My 78 750 pipes after market 4 into 2 bolt on just like yours. I have never used the two half shells just that that part you show and the flange with the fins. Never leaks ;)

That is one really good looking pipe.  Love the collector in front with the firing order swirl.  Really shows the header off.

 The mounting rings that show on that page are what you are missing..probably fit in a groove on the collar...think bendable snap ring...

No leaks, fits perfect. Talk about sexy curves, puuurfect sound, lightweight with unlimited ground clearance!
Initial seat-of-the-pants dyno run impressions is a better bottom and mid-range as compared to my yoshi. And a bit quieter.
I'm seriously thinking fabbing header duplicates, new supertrapp and chrome plating.
And its 55 degrees today, snow all melted woo-hoo!
