Quality Cafe Seat??
« on: January 12, 2012, 12:46:41 PM »
Ive been looking at several sites for seats and many look the same.  I am kind of partial to a metal one that Benjie makes for the CB750F which I have.  However, for 500 bucks I want to make sure that its a quality part.  I know you cant trust everything you read but I have read some things on this forum concerning the quality of the fiberglass units.  Any opinions on this seat?  How about other companies?
Thanks,
Chris

This guy makes a bunch of different models. Hard to tell on the quality, but he seems to have the widest selection I have come across and he says he'll do customs too.

I was happy with my cover and foam I got from them as were some others.  I have read stories on here about the pans not being that great and one member getting totally rooked by them.  They take a while to ship and you have that 45 day ebay return thing.

Sooooooo...
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

classic clyce city made my cafe seat. It is built like a tank and I really dig the looks of it. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The gentleman that built it is on the forum here (ricky_racer, I believe).

Thanks for the help.  I have an email into Classic Cycle City now.  Is your cowl fiberglass?  I think I am going in a different direction with the oil tank so I may not use the hinges as originally planned.  If I go that route, I don't mind a quality fiberglass part.  I get nervous putting hinges and such on glass.

Thanks, Kevin.  After the (expletive deleted) foreign-made seats that have recently flooded the US market have flattened due to poor foam and fallen apart due to cheap covers and stitching, your seat will still be one of the finest ever produced. Thankfully, we have very happy customers all over the world. Your experience is testimony to the personal care and commitment (blood, sweat and tears) we have put into every seat. Thank you for validating our work. We don't make throwaway parts.

bmaker, contact me directly through ted@classiccyclecity.com. It's usually best to chat on the phone.

BTW, our hinges float through the fiberglass base; they mimic the original hinges and bolt into the original hinge brackets on an unmodified '69-'76 CB750K frame. On the inside of the seat (under the foam) the powdercoated hinges attach to stainless plates with welded through bolts. That way the seat can be adjusted to fit any minor production (or wear) variations in the stock frame. Thanks!  RR

Sorry, bro. We love our Hondas and we're really limited by our circumstances. But if you've got a rich uncle, we'd be happy to talk with him!  ;D  RR

I a seat from Classic Cycle City (Ricky Racer) and I gotta tell ya, it's kind of a pain in the ass.  Not literally a painful ass , but I"m tired of answering questions about it every time I ride.  So many comments and questions that I can't get a good ride in without a 15-20 minute break at every gas stop.  I just want to ride in peace.

Damn you Ricky Racer for making such a fine seat.

I've purchased two and I'll be dealing with again.

Awesome product and great to deal with.

RR - Look for my order when I pick up my next CB.

Obviously it's the bike on the right.

Unfortunately Classic Cycle City doesn't offer anything for the F right now.  I will give Dime City a call tomorrow to see what they have to offer.  I would like to go with a metal one but choices seem to be limited for metal and F fitment.
