I've been an avid reader of the site for a while, but I've never had much to talk about until now. Just recently I picked up a 1977 CB550K in damn good shape and with the $1,200 purchase the gentleman through in a 1978 CB550 (deemed a parts bike with missing paperwork). Pictures of both bikes will hopefully attach to this post. I'm excited to "officially" be a part of the community and look forward to learning from all who know much, much more than I ever will about these machines.
Now onto the real reason for this post. I have decided that instead of tearing into the '77, I would make a project of the '78. The problem is that in order to decide whether it is worth the time, money, etc. I have to address some carburetor issues. The PD46C rack does not seem to have many parts available, and without any disassembly, I know am missing two bowls as well as the accompanying internal parts. The remainder is up in the air until I break them down.
I have a lead on a rack from the '74 to '76 range but have received mixed opinions on how big of a pain in the rear it will be to convert (i.e. manifold, choke, throttle). Is there more literature on this question? Has any one completed the conversion? Do you recommend it? Is it worth salvaging the PD's even with minimal parts available?
