I have a buddy who may have one laying around. Let me ask. Dumb question but would a 750 work?

Hey Matt. Sorry for your loss. At least your other two side covers, which are way easier to remove, are still there.

A while back i acquired some lower engine parts and some other stuff in the box.  I don't remember if I have the extra cover. I'll go through the box and see, will let you know.

Just let me know If you couldn't find anything local.

On a side note, I wonder how they are able to get the cover off so quick, and not damaging it. I mean, It's not difficult to take it off, but it takes careful attention not to break the pins and damaging the edges.

Hey tews just a heads up on that 500t tank we are using. I have run out of gas twice now. I think because the back is sitting up higher now there is basically no reserve it runs out put it on reserve and runs out in about a mile or two. I am going to look into it a bit more but dont think there is alot I can do but will see.

I was thinking that before too. The petcock is placed differently then the 550 tanks. I think I will leave the downward slope but work on my seat placement.

Yeah is something I can live with just need to check the tank for gas a bit more often. LOL the wife was not happy being called at 5am to come bring the gas can to me on the highway and even worse I had to ride on the back of a Harley guys bike he stopped to see if I needed help then  dropped me off at work so I could call her. I didnt know what the protocal is for when another guy rides on the back of your bike I decided I wasnt going to hug him (he scared me lol) so I just lightly pushed on his back when he was slowing down but was a nice guy considering 4 or 5 other bikes went by and nobody else stopped..

I think the only reason I felt wierd about was its been like 20 years since I have been on the  back of a bike. I was just making fun of the situation was glad someone stopped and offered help :)

This is always good news, a wonderful life changing experience, and a long ride, usually a by the seat of your pants.
I have been fortunate to have had 2 girls after the Army hospital said that would be unlikely to have any at all .  Those girls kept us on our toes ,made us laugh ,made us cry, made us live. It goes by too fast.
That's great news, congratulations on the start of a new life, it's a ride worth taking.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

Well guys going to call this one done but we all know there is always something else to do to it. This winter I will knock out a few things that I want to change or redo.

-New shocks
-New spokes I cleaned them up a year ago and rust is starting to come back. Don't feel like trying to keep them all nice and clean.
-Where the tank meets the seat it has to much of a gap in my opinion will redo the seat.
-Probally weld on some type of exhaust mounts for the rear.
-Tach and speedo gauge overlays they have been the way they are for so long I am kind of use to them but would like to make them match.
-Repaint the gas tank and tail I am undecided still on the color of it and a few mistakes but overall came out very nice using the spraymax k2 spray paint.

A few things I would like to pass down to help other new people out like me when its the first time you have ever done anything like this.

-Photos photos photos I cant stress that enough I took about 30 pictures before teardown and thought that was good enough. It wasn't even close all the pretty side pictures and stuff helped some it was the odd picture taken that I found myself looking at more on how things went back together.

- Don't tell yourself Oh that was easy to take off I will remember how it goes back together again LOL yeah right. Take a pictures save yourself some stress :)

-Plan ahead on parts that you will need to order look two months down the road its not fun sitting around waiting for them.

-Get the right tools you will probally enjoy the hell out of this the tools will pay for themselves down the road on other projects.

I have been asked several times how much this build cost the last few weeks since I have been doing shakedown runs on it. The  grand total is.

- 1360.00$
- The actual cost is much higher though if I include all the tools and the bike purchase . I learned early on have the right tool for the job makes it so much easier. So with all the tools  was much closer 2000.00$

I would like to thank everyone on this forum for all the help, ideas and support.Tews thanks for letting me bounce ideas off you. One person that deserves the biggest thanks is forum member Larry (MoMo). He took the time to answer all my stupid questions and showed me how to do things right. I didn't want to get this bike and then drop it off to someone and bam the bike is all done. I wanted to find someone that could show me and teach me how these old bikes work and do it myself. So thanks again Larry. This project took a little over a year to do and was such an amazing ride and experience. I have had motorcycles most of my life and the accomplishment of finishing this project is such a awsome feeling. I know the bike isn't a trailer queen but I made it and the smile that lights up my face everytime I look at tells me I did all right..

Next project will be posted soon :)

Thanks Matt
