Question for you all I am finishing up painting the frame with por-15 black chassiscoat and would you all reccomend putting a clear coat over it? Going to do some reasearch on it in the next few days just wanted some opinons..

Never used it bud. You ever think about the duplicolor paint members here rave about when painting engines?

I decided to go with the por-15 can be put on with a foam brush is to cold for me to paint outside so this works on the sunporch

stays nice and warm in there..Only thing is the stupid cats keep coming out there...

Yeah used a foam brush seems to work alright paint seems to level pretty good.

Frame is done it came out alright. Will finish up the swingarm tomorrow then hopefully next week start putting it back together

.. Found a 75 cb550 engine for 30$ going to pick that up tomorrow will be used in the wifes 75 cb550 build now just need to find some carbs and a airbox for hers and will be all set to start on it.

I have carbs if you need 'em....and rebuild kits. They will definitely need rebuilding. Although, I might be missing the screws from one of the float bowls...I'd have to check. They're honestly just taking up space right now, and I need to stop hoarding things (at least that's what the wifey tells me....daily)....just PM me.

Frame came out nice. I got an airbox off my '78. If it fits your wife's you can have it. I'm a short drive from ya.

Yeah pretty much the rubber pucks up front had to shave down some the petcock has to be turned a bit to clear the carbs. The back might have to be raised half inch or so not sure since I was raising it anyways to flow with the seat line. Will be putting it on later today let you know if the back has to be raised.

Got the engine, forks, swingarm etc back on yesterday. Put the tank on just checking it out. Disregard the handlebars have them on to move it still trying to decide what ones I want to get.

Is a good feeling 7 months of moving stuff around and now I can roll it out of the way

It has given me a nice second wind since it looks like a motorcycle sort of now...

Wow it's look great. The tank is the 500 right? Is it a direct fit or did you have to modify any? I should have gone with that! The lines fit well with the bike. Did you have to get a different petcock?

Got the gauges, footpegs, airbox and some misc parts on. Waiting for some parts to come in. Realized the other day that when I bought the bike it had like 3ft ape hangers on it so I am going to have to cut the wires on the controls or just try and stuff it in the headlight.. Also think I need to take the swing arm off to get the rear brake arm in

Will be working on the tank,seat this weekend when I have some time off.

Does anyone know if there is a chrome chainguard that will fit on this seems like the chrome ones for the 550 have different mounting brackets than the plastic one I have need to look into it more but if anyone has any suggestions would be most welcome.

Remove the bolt holding the swing arm to the frame. Keep the tire on though. While on the kick stand. Lift up on the front of the swing arm. Do not pull up to much. You can then remove the brake lever. I did this when installing the lever. Thought I would have to remove everything but I didn't.

Thanks Tews worked on it today and got it in with no problem how you exlplained..

Got the main wiring harness back in and some polishing/cleaning done. Main thing is waiting on parts

Still trying to figure out what I want to do with the handle bar controls polish them up or paint them to be honest I am so sick of polishing stuff

cb550f has a chrome chain guard but it does have different mounting tabs than the 550k

Thanks SeanBarney I saw they have different mounting tabs why I didnt get one yet.. Just going to put the chrome chain guard on the back burner for now and use the plastic one that came with it.

Matt, you could use a plastic spray primer and then a chrome paint if you really want it to look chrome. See you soon...Larry
