Tricks to make sure oil passages are clear
« on: June 15, 2016, 07:42:43 PM »
Anyone have any tricks or tips that I can do to check and make sure my oil passages are clear that run up the cylinder studs for lubricating the cam, and down the cylinder studs to return back to the bottom of the case?

My studs are still in, look good, and I don't want to go through the effort of removing them. It's a stock engine rebuild, no performance upgrades and Im not going to be riding her hard so I think stock studs are okay.

Any tips to check the passages are clear? Everything was soda blasted but has been significantly washed out several times.

Makes sense, I'm anticipating everything to be okay. If for some reasons the two that run oil up to camshaft are blocked, what would be my options? Remove the studs and clean the passages out I guess, right?

Yeah, since I have the engine case halves split, I will probably turn the top half upside down and squirt some oil into the cavity and see if it slowly makes its way through. If not, I guess I have to remove them to clean out. Maybe some vinegar through it or "Goo Gone" gunk remover first to see if that helps

you cant realy klean up from autside/up side /valve cover off)..the gunk..is inside the oil lines above the oil pump...better to remove the sump...vask the schreen and blow fuel inside the engine..and use air to dry it..put new filter and oil inn..and run it under kontroll( oil gauge). some minuts.if all goes fine take a long ride..and thange oil Again..eventuell filter too...and then the engine is so clean it can be..
