Frostyboy and GZ arrived this arvo, we went for a short ride and I'm not sure GZ was sure he likes the 650 because he tried to jump ship at 120kph, but I convinced him it was a real SOHC4 and he settled down for the rest of the ride.  Now we're sitting on the back verandah having a couple of brews while GZ checks out the 32mm carbs for my 650 engine build.

Great job fellas.
And good to see the 4X stubbie cooler there as well.
I bet that the cool drink didn't stay in there for long.
Was GZ looking for something brown and fizzy with alcohol?
Keep up the good work men.  ;)  8)

I had to rattle up a few seeing Team NSW didn't front Peter. I loved every minute of it though, except for the jolts through the bars every now & then.  ;)

Saturday 21 April: Strapped GZ onto the instruments & headed off to Marybourough to hand off to Trueblue.
I took the long way around to get up there, the highway would've been too boring.
First stop was at Australia Zoo. Unfortunately Steve 'Crikey' Irwin is no longer with us, so we didn't go in. Mick might find a real croc for the lizard in Darwin.
As you can tell by the sky in the photos, it was a perfect day for riding.

Just up the road a bit is the Ettamogha Pub, purpously built skewiff, with an old truck on the roof. It's a fairly famous tourist attraction. It was too early in the day for a beer though.

From there, up the highway a bit & turned off to Cooroy, Pomona, Kin Kin & Tin Can Bay before heading into Marybourough to meet Trueblue for the hand off. There were heaps of great scenery on the way, but nowhere really safe to pull up for the best shots. This is one I was able to grab though. So green after recent rain.

Andrew & Hannah were kind enough to put me up for the night & feed me as well. That's what's great about this relay, meeting like minded people & treating em like family. We went for a ride after GZ got onto Trublue's 650 & I met Andrew's cousin Les on the way. He has a Goldwing in his shed. We shared a cuppa & a few yarns.

The official hand off.

I headed down to Hervey Bay after leaving GZ in the care of Andrew & Hannah, had breakfast at a fine lil cafe & headed back home feeling on top of the world. Thanks for organising the Relay, it was great to be part of it.
Just as I was riding into Hervey Bay I caught a glimpse of what I was sure was a CB turning into a service station. I did a u turn & pulled up beside it at the pump. Sure nuff, was a 550 with Joe & Jill on board going on a club run with the local vintage bike club. I sure was tempted to join the ride, but had to consider getting home on time. I've given them the address for this forum, I hope they get to see their picture.

If I've learnt anything from the trip, it's to put some lighter oil in the front forks. In the main it's okay, but when you hit a reasonable bump at speed, it's like having someone on the back & they whack you between the shoulder blades with their fist. I think I might wake up a bit sore, but not sorry.

In all I travelled 1,293 Kms, 858 Kms with GZ in my care, so I guess I'm in the 500 mile club.  8)

It's true........ You do meet the nicest people on a Honda.

Happy Trails Godzilla.  ;)

You've done an absolutely top job Owen and also played a huge part in waving the Aussie flag for this section of the relay.  8)
Sorry mate that somehow I missed these photos that you've put up here but I'm glad that I've seen them now.

It really is a great part of Oz around that area and I have to admit that I dream of living there one day.

Well I think that if Steve Irwin (RIP) was still with us, there would have been one hell of a CRIKEY when this reptile rocked into Australia Zoo.  ;D

Thanks again for your top effort Owen and I'll say on behalf of everyone that we're all proud of you mate.  ;)
And a big thanks as well to everyone else who has put into this and participated.
It's been a great team effort.
There's still a little bit to go yet but we're getting there.  8)

Thanks for your kind words Mick, I bookmarked a spot in the thread at Andrew's place so my post would be in the correct order. Easy to miss cos it was a page back.
I'm just sorry that I forgot to pull Dave's flag out of the backpack for the photos.
Maybe the next relay should run the other way around?

Cheers.  :D

This morning GZ and I got up and went for a run into town to watch the ANZAC day march, I found a spot near the start where we could sit on the bike and watch, we sat there and watched as the diggers and their family marched past, once the march was over we pointed our nose towards Bundaberg, our initial intentions were to head up to the Bundy rum distilary but GZ had other ideas.  He had heard of this great riding road out to Paradise Dam, and wanted to check it out, seeing as it headed west off the highway halfway to Bundy we decided to go that way.  The road out there is one of the best riding roads in this area, it is only a few years old so it is still fairly smooth, and the corners are what wet dreams are made of, the only downside is there are very few spots to pull over for a photo as the road is also fairly narrow, but the views are fantastic.

We were just getting ready to leave Paradise Dam and I got chatting to a nice older couple, (to be honest they were only mid-fifties) Lance and Robin, we got chatting about early Hondas, Lance bought a K2 new, but sold it a few years back, I was invited to have a cuppa with them at their caravan, they were a lovely couple, brings back the old adage, you meet the nicest people on a Honda.  When we finally left Paradise we headed home Via Biggenden and pulled up at Brooweena, an old logging camp/township, for a rest on the way home, the back roads around here are a little rough.

Just after we pulled away from Brooweena GZ decided it was snack time, and tried to eat a finch, the poor bird came out of the long grass on the side of the road and flew straight into GZ's mouth, there was a feather left in his mouth after his encounter but as I was slowing down to get a photo GZ spat it out.  Obviously didn't want any evidence that he had been eating the local wildlife.

Yay, way to go Andrew. I was wondering if you'd go for a run today, GZ is in the mood for some twistys, I didn't know he had a taste for birds though. Better a finch comes out at you than a roo or something  ;)

I was lucky enough to carry the colours for the 2nd/7th Div Cavalry Regiment Association today for the march in the city today as well. Proud to carry my dad's medals with the last remaining soldier able to do the march.

Keep up the good work mate, I was hoping to see a pic at the big bottle o'rum but if it doesn't happen this time maybe when Lefty get's here.

I'm definately glad it was only a finch, there were a lot of cattle on the roadside, but it still had me p!$$ing myself laughing.  I still want to try and get up to Bundy and 1770, but not sure if I'll have the time to get there.

Great stuff Andrew.
Good that GZ was able to be there to see the Anzac march as well.
I think that is significant.

I was also thinking that if GZ is going up to the Bundy Distillery for a visit, it might be a good idea to Hog Tie him before he gets a sniff of that stuff that they make there.  ;D
If he's already started eating the wildlife and also gets a belly full of Queensland Diesel, there might be some explaining to to do afterwards.  ;D

Keep up the good work mate.
I'll PM you when I know some more about the next step.

Yep that's the stuff mate.  ;D
Bundaberg Rum (Bundy) - Cane Juice or Qld Diesel.

It's guaranteed to make you 6 foot tall and bullet proof and it works everytime.  ;D

Many years ago, I was watching 2 good mates getting stuck into a bottle of Bundy and they ended up having a good old dust up afterwards.
The following morning, neither of them could remember what had happened or where all of the battle scars had come from.
There's something in it that can bring the devil out of a good man.  (And women too) That's when it's time to clear out of the place.  ;D

Trueblue. Mick tells me that you will post GZ on the 7th of May. This will be good because I would like to begin my leg on the 11th May. My intention is to ride to Innisfail on the 11th where I will hand over to Ben and then travel back to Ayr on the 12th. I will advise Mick of my address and phone number. I hope you leg goes well. GZ really likes the taste of birds! He attracted one while with me in Utah. Saw it coming out of the corner of my eye and cringed. He reached out and musta snagged it because all the guys behind me saw was feathers flying.

When I woke up this morning I figured GZ wanted to go out for a ride.

My initial intention was to head to Bundaberg and 1770 for the day, but a rather large week at work had left me a little sore, and I didn't feel up to a 300km ride, and seeing as the weather looked so beautiful we decided to take a short ride down to the coast and give GZ a look over Fraser Island.  We decided to take the back roads there past our town water supply, after recent rains the causeway was flowing over the road, it was only about 4-6" deep so we just continued on through (there was a fairly new BMW 1150 GS there whose rider turned back at the thought of riding through a little water).

We continued on and a little while later we arrived at Boonooroo Point, and a beautiful view over the Great Sandy Straits to Fraser Island, we had a little rest there and did a bit of riding around the area before heading home for lunch.

I was intending on sending GZ on his way tomorrow, the 7th but it is a public holiday here so he'll be on his way first thing on the 8th.

Well done Andrew, looks like it was perfect weather for the ride. Nice to see Hannah along for the ride as well.
It might be a public holiday, but alas I'm working today.
I finally got to change the fork oil the other night. Went for a ride yesterday & wondered how much nicer my run to Marybourough would've been if I'd changed it before I left.  :(
So just 3 more stops before GZ leaves the Land Down Under. Oh the sights he's seen on his journey, ride on my reptile friend.  8)
