I decided to go ahead and cut the hoses for a quick check
Using my old head to be the test mule.
kind of a pain to get the intake on as everything is on an angle
glad the hose have some clearance and are flexible.

I also need to modify the clutch cover to add the turbo drain hose
Any thoughts on this and opinions?
I have the manifold to fit were  the oil pressure switch goes so the supply to the turbo is not a problem
and the ATP instructions show that the drain is to go in to the clutch cover.


I tried my hand at powder coating this weekend and
the covers really are RED. well I have never been one to make things look good
just practical, but after reading the 1988 Cycle issue about the 220 HP Turbo Egli-Kawasaki
I think I will do the same color as this motor. all red bottom end, Black cylinders, But will NOT do anything to
the head as its already being built my Mike R.
the valve cover with get the red treatment also

Good info here.  I too am planning a 836 turbo but I am going to add fuel injection.  I am currently searching for the proper size throttle body and I was thinking 40mm-45mm was the correct size.  Sounds like you are running a 42mm carb? 

Mine is strictly for street use in my aftermarket chopper frame.  Planning on using 8-10 pounds of boost.  I currently have a 10:1 piston for a K and plan to use the late F head and possibly the DOHC rods to get a low static compression for the boost.  I am not looking to push this little engine past its limits.  Just a little extra HP and a lot extra in the cool department.  I want a reliable machine that I can ride!   

Can you take some closeups of the intake setup.  It looks similar to what was brewing in my head that I plan to make.  What boots are you using to connect to the head?

All of the hoses came from Mr. Turbo in Texas.
He supplied all of the hardware, The carburetor, and rebuilt the Turbo. If  you have a Ray-Jay system
he has all of the parts for these

The emblem....Chevrolet Corvair...the Turbo 160 HP model!!
My old one with V8 and nitrous! ;D

As a former tech advisor for the Corvair Society of America, I must ask about 160 hp emblems? The ones that I've seen were either 150 hp for the early ones or 180 hp for the '65-'66. Check with Clark's Corvair Parts for new emblems. They're out in Western Mass.

See,that's why you were Mr.Corvair! ;)I forgot,I'm old 180 it was! Jim might fit on ARD cover or std ign. cover!Mine was a '66 midmount Crown kit,built 283,with gas,a gas it was!!! ;D

Tech advisor for CORSA? Cool. I still have a '65 turbo Corsa, as well as a complete Crown '66 transaxle setup. One of those projects where life got in the way. Ever hear of Richard Finch? He was one of the 'vair gurus in my hometown in the '70s..

My setup is not a kit.  I am piecing it together and I will build my exhaust and intake.  I have never added a turbo or EFI to a engine before so I almost feel like a 6 year old with a Hustler.  Well not exactly...  It really seems simple enough.  One the EFI I will test it w/o the boost first then just add an additional variable.  Worst case is never run or go BOOM.  Either way it will be fun.

I am running a cycleone swingarm frame on this build.  I already have a cycleX boxer with a stock engine and Amen Savior with a mild upgrade engine.  Here is the current EFi turbo build.  It is just getting started as I finally moved into my 3000 sqft personal shop.

 JIM,  Here's a picture of my clutch cover.  Right above the kick starter shaft is where i had a friend of mine weld in a aluminum 90 degree an fitting just like whats on the bottom of your turbo.  The original instructions said to mount it on the top of the cover but the factory hose was too small and the almost horizontal drain hose caused the foamy oil not to drain and would make too much smoke because of the build up.  After my relocating the drain line the problem was solved.    ;)

did you take out the kick starter shaft all together and just plug the opening?
 then drill the hole and weld the fitting?

  No, i left the kick starter shaft installed . With the A.R.D.magneto and the kick starter i can start the engine without using the battery or the starter.  Real nice in case of a failed battery or starter.    ;)   I just used a black rubber cover over the end of the shaft.  I keep the kick starter arm under the seat.

Jim, since you have the motor apart, consider welding in a fitting for the drain in the upper crankcase, under the turbo, and getting rid of the 90 degree fittings. Also, the oil has to drain freely, so I would use a larger line; 1/2" ID is typically used, at least with some turbo set ups. What model Rayjay do you have?

Mike,what I meant to tell him when I seen 'em.Jim seal or tape em off,paint will have too be removed,can damage beautiful cvrs,voice of experience,besides it takes time!just my .02. Bill....looking good tho!!!

I spent the better part of a couple of hours taping and plugging anything and everything that I didn't
want coated. everything that has anything to do with seals, gaskets, etc etc does not get coated.....
will send pictures as soon as I get the bottom half done
just ordered more red powder

Here is the taping before and the finished case after
The tape is just furnace tap (From Home Depot), this is good for 400F and will not melt during the curing process
but keeps out the powder from getting on surfaces that don't need it
I have ordered more of the high temp silicon plugs to go where the case bolt holes are
