Topic: CB750 has DID 500s chain is this OK or not

Hello
I just took my chain off and gave it a good clean, printed on it is DID 500s, I remember reading a week or two ago that it should be a 530 chain.  Should I change this chain or it does not really matter.
If I should change it I will probably do sprokets as well and am wondering which ones people buy or which ones to stay away from.
I don't mind paying more for good quality

the chain should match the sprocket pitch the big thing about did is don't trust their master link I have pulled several apart
if the pitch of the chain does not match the sprockets then get new sprockets and chain to match

as your sprockets most likely are junk after running the wrong chain on them and they may have  been junk before which is why they have the wrong chain on them in the first place

make sure that it is not really a 530 chain  D.I.D. chain has some pretty strange marking conventions the 's' may mean that it is a 530 look it up on the web site to find out

You sure it didn't say DID 50 rather than 500?

If so, a DID 50 chain is the same as a 530 notation.

The only DID500 google hits came back with 520 series chains which do not fit onto 530 sprockets.

Perhaps you should measure the pin to pin distance and the sprocket width to verify what chain you have?

Closer inspection revealed it says DID 50D and then "S" is printed under that.
Pin to pin is 16mm which is the same as valley to valley on the sprocket and the sprocket width is 8.5mm
So maybe I'm OK for now.  A quality replacement here in Oz is $409 so if I can keep that money in my pocket a bit longer that's a good thing

Seems you have a 530 spec chain, same as DID50.  The link I posted above isn't the one I thought it was.  Sorry about that.

The pin pitch is 5/8 Inch and the sprocket width is .343 Inch.

5/8 = 15.875mm
.343" = 8.71mm

What is that replacement made of? As long as you lube them regularly cheaper chains are just as good

I am stepping down to a 520 on my two 750's. Chain tech has advanced so much over the years that todays 520's are WAY stronger than last century's 630's. If a 520 can handle the 197 crank HP my 2011 S1000RR puts out, then it can certainly handle the 60-70 my two Honda's put out.

They make the rear sprocket out of some sort of alloy once you order it, I have one on another bike but have'nt got that bike on the road yet to test it out.  Reports in Aussie magazine reckon that they are good stuff. Now I'm thinking it may be on the pricey side a bit

Standard sprockets and chain well lubed will last long enough to make that stuff WAAAAAY to pricey

im with bryanj,a well lubed/maintained cheap chain will last just aswell as a top dollar one i think,and they have for me,i think i paid about 70 bucks for a rear sprocket a while ago scott.,,jt brand.
