Welcome to the forums.

Finding a match and source is difficult, but not impossible.

The Honda CB750 used two codes to define the 1972-75 Planet blue metallic. One was a color code: MV and the other was a paint can code: PB-27MC

The two letter color code can be found on the end of a part number which has been factory painted, as in this Planet blue fuel tank example: 17500-341-670MV

The paint can code can be found on original Honda (pre-mixed) paint cans as in this photo example: PB-27MC

As has been shown, codes to exist for these colors, but they don't mean anything to any current paint manufacturer.  They were made by Honda, and Honda doesn't make paint anymore.

I have some old Lubritech paint schedules. The Planet Blue Metallic is "HM-16-505".

Yes, those codes are available:  http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/lubrtech.html, but try finding a current manufacturer that they mean anything to.

Are you sure about that?  ;)

The codes PB27-MC and MV that I posted in reply #3 actually do mean something. A quick search shows that at least two current paint manufactures carry Planet blue paint by those Honda codes.

I stand corrected.

Has anybody here actually used these that can attest to their accuracy?  It's difficult to reproduce the original Honda base metallic with overlying color in just one can.

...as has been mentioned already...the original paint was a custom process...to reproduce the color, you must reproduce the process...to do this you will need the correct silver base coat, overlayed by the correct blue candy (candy is semi-transparent and the color is achieved, and modified, by the number and thickness of subsequent coats, then possible additional metallic/flake (depends on exactly which Honda color in question), and then clear...
If it works good, it looks good...

The sample on the ColorRite site is a very similar shade to O.E.
The metallic isn't visible tho, and they do state that the sample is only representative.
