Topic: Wow that was stupid. How do you clean a whole bike drenched in fresh oil?

Yeah I feel foolish but lucky.  That's god laughing at me for buying the most expensive oil on the market.  And for making the switch to full synthetic, perhaps?

No,it is not the synthetic oil. The synthetic oil is more earth friendly.
I hope you did not come home and not report the oil spill and another
motorcyclist hit YOUR oil on that intersection and was hurt or killed.

Very good points, Lucky.  I was a bit too flustered at the time to think clearly about the oil on the street, but I think Bill's right that most of it ended up on me...  I'll drive by the spot at lunch with some kitty litter...

this is dangerous but i have used starting fuild to wash oil off parts... it works wonders and is quicki would only use it on the engine in a ventilated outside away from anything

I picked up some S100 today at lunch and I'm going to give that a try.   I've also got some simple green I can use in safe places.  If that doesn't work, I'll think about moving into the harder stuff...  The thought of spraying starting fluid on my bike is kind of scary!

Don't let the s100 dry in the bike. It will leave a film as stated in directions. Also it will make your bike look really clean. Even give it a shine. Not bad for a cleaning product

+1...this works great!  Spray can with a straw really gets into hard to reach spots...

i think if it were me i would use a pressure washer, but use the soap spraying tip that is low pressure and spray dawn dish soap all over it, then just rinse it off with the hose.

Use denatured alcohol, its used extensively at our plant to clean oil spills, and i use it at home in my garage also to clean parts.

Also, brake cleaner can be used too.

Well, I went with a thorough soak with S100 aerosol, followed by a heavy rinse, then warm soapy water and clean rags.  Worked great, and my bike does look really clean!  I dried it with compressed air then went for a short ride and we are back in business.  Oh, I removed the oil cooler first and I'm going back to the drawing board with that.  Next oil change I'll have a better solution ready.

What kind of oil are you using and do you have pods. OH CRAP here we go-----

I'll do you one better--full synthetic 20w50 (motorcycle oil) and I'm trying out some interesting velocity stacks I just found.  So THERE!  (I've been running K&N pods but got them wet tonight during the wash and they are off for a cleaning and re-oiling...).  Oh and I just removed the oil cooler but will probably put it back on once I figure a better way to route the lines.

Thanks!  At the very least I hope to inspire other dopes like me who don't know much but are willing to get their hands dirty and learn.  It's been an incredibly rewarding experience!
