Front Fork Spring Height
« on: January 09, 2012, 01:07:44 PM »
Does anyone know what the free height for the internal springs on the front forks of a 1975 CB750F is?
Thanks 8)

What does that mean?  The springs themselves or the height of the fork of bike?

I have the springs that came out of my 75f ( I switched to progressives).

I could measure them for you but I am not certain if they are OEM.

The free height of any spring is the distance from one end to the other without a load on the spring. All springs sag or take a "set" after they have been under constant load for a period of time. Knowing the "free height" allows you to decide when a spring should be replaced based on how much it has sagged.
The front end of my bike feels mushy to me but I'm over 250lbs with gear etc. Trying to decide if the springs need replacing or if I should go to a thicker fork oil. 8)

Sorry for the delay: the springs which came in mine were 19 3/4 inches or about 500mm..

I'm not positive they were oem - they were in fact hard as hell to squeeze into the forks after changing fork oil- one of the reason I went for progressives, but the progressive springs seem to squishy for me.. not sure what is best...
