Another Mikuni PHH carb question
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:55:50 am »

So im trying to get these cleaned up and ready to install.

I need to get gaskets for them as when I took them apart they were dry and cracked.

I called wolf creek but they said that they could not help me because I have motorcycle carbs and not automotive carbs.  He told me that they are called by the same numbers and what not but are different physical sizes and take different parts....that are not available any more, he said no parts have been available for 30 years....

Am i missing something or just flat doing it wrong?
I just really want to get these rebuilt and on the bike.
I also need stacks, filters or something for them too.

Any help would be amazing.
Dont guys run these on HDs?

I dont think they were used much on H-D, but they may have been in small quantities. If you work off the series designation, I think gaskets would all be the same..somtimes better to just pretend they are off a 750cc car than confuse the parts sellers...

Well i guess you are right, I dont think they used them on HD much more then they used them on CBs
Wolf creek so far has been the only people i saw that deals with these side drafts and they are telling me that the motorcycle carbs are some how different and much smaller and therefor no parts are available?

Im going to try and take a look at any and all castings or marks to get a better understanding of what they are off of.

754 didnt you run a set of these at some point?

I have Dellortos, that I have not tried (part of the tops may interfere with stock frame rails), several sets of Webers, ran them a lot..love them Got 4 different Weber manifolds right now!

Your carbs and manifold were most likely sold by Branch Flowmetrics.. Jerry Branch's company...they arte still around..

All I found was this
On the top they are cast mikuni and under neither it says kogyo

The throttle plates are stamped 170
PHH and N3 are also cast/stamped in the bodies

The bore is 36mm

Look up "Alfa1750" on Ebay for parts for these carbs(email him and hell him what you have and want). I beleive you have the Solex/Mikuni PHH36.

Alfa1750 helped me out with "odd" parts for a set of Solex PHH40's I had.

Here's a Wolf Creek link that calls them the Type Q carbs.

They are different, your searching for  Mikuni 36 PHH this shows how the model numbers worked.
 http://www.mikunipower.com/PHHCarbs/PHHservice02.jpg

Also seems they were on a few H-D's second post lower 2 pic's
http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=1206675

You also have them showing up in the old 1200 civics, Mikuni 35 PHH carbs were in the 1336 Dellorto kit and Mikuni 36 PHH carbs were an upgrade with that kit.

Looks like K&N Filters and hardware in stock here:

This is going to be job finding kits, you need to get lucky....

36phh is sounding more and more like what they are.
Still unclear about the info that I got from wolf creek about the car vs bike carbs

The jet cover looks like they are type Qs but they defiantly are not.  Its a different gasket in there

Thanks for the tip about that ebay seller.
Found him will looking for some dellorto parts

Measure the upper mounting bolt spacing, and the lower mounting bolt spacing; I'll do the same on a Weber, so you can compare.
