What would you do?
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:54:48 pm »
I have a 1977 CB 750 K that I have been working on. Bike is running just great and I'm just doing little things to make it sweet.

The exhaust currently on it is not bad for the year. Top pipes have a little rust, lower pipes good with the usual battery leakage on one. It's kind of like a "patina" look if you will.  8) Kind of goes with the orginal look.

Current:

I have a never installed set of 405 pipes sitting in the bedroom. Yup, OEM all the way.  Never mounted, perfect. Remember, the 1977/1978 models were the only ones that used this style.

I'd save them until I actually needed them.

You put a set of brand new, pristine pipes on an otherwise nice-looking, but used bike, and they'll make the other parts of the bike that aren't perfect stand out like a sore thumb.

Keep Them!

Save them until your bike really,...... really needs them.
By then, those could be impossible to come by at
any price!

Keep the NOS stored away well till the old ones are blown away. Are you just teasing the 'newer' 750 Guys and Gals.  ???  :)

Nope.

Once I put them on then that's it. New pipes would look awesome but a show bike it's not. Some good points here.

I'd treat the new pipes to a generous coating of hi temp paint on the insides so they never rust again.

Did that with my 341's eons ago and no bluing, no rusting, ...... Don't know if you can pull the baffles from the 405's or not. If not, thin the paint down so it won't plug small holes but you'd have to treat them twice.

Then tuck them away and save them.

Well, no. At least not yet. Derick is sending me one that appears to be different. Will see.

No hurry on this Stev-O.
