SOHC in your go cart?
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:28:06 am »
Had to share this with the group. I've though for years about dropping a 750 in a cart frame. I have a 'matic I've been holding on to for a few years thinking it would be perfect for such a platform. Saw this on c'list.

The frame looks smaller than I would want, but this dude has the right idea!

I have seen quite a few of those creations for sale before in different forms, garden tractors, golf carts,go carts etc.. 750 would make for quite a handful for sure, almost dangerous.

Yeah -  I think a small Honda twin of some kind would be more 'usable' and a tad safer.

I got my 55 indirectly because of a project like this.  My uncle and some of his friends wanted to build a shifter cart powered by the 550.  He picked it up and it sat in his garage for 15+ years, now it's sitting in mine...

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Yeah, for a 750 I am thinking of something more akin to a buggy frame. I've seen a few larger carts out there that would be a good fit. Some where between a go-cart and a dune buggy. The old Honda Odysseys would be a good fit. Fully enclosed frame...seat with full shoulder harness...ect...

LOL ! The only problem I've ever found about putting a bike motor of any size into a cart frame is no reverse   :'(  . The only dangerous part is how bad you tweek the throttle  :o !!!   ...cougar...

I'd look into making something more along the lines of a mix between a kart and a FSAE car (look em up, pretty cool imo, I'm on University of Cincinnati's team).  Watch out for weight balance.  Sounds cool...and fast!
