1979 Honda cb750 super sport
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:13:36 PM »
Hey guys I'm planning on picking up a bike for a steal especially considering I live in L.A., CA and cb750s can go for 3k and upwards.

So the seller says its a 1979 Honda cb750 super sport but I'm not too sure if it is or not? However he wants to let it go for
$1200 and tells me that it runs great and is in great condition as well.
I'm going to go look at it personally but I just wanted to see if anyone can tell if this is a supersport or not by this picture?

Thanks!
Sorry if this is in the wrong section  :-\

Oh wow this is a dohc? I thought pre 1980s were sohc?

Hmmm... now I dunno if I want it. I've heard the dohc isn't that reliable and there are some problems with it. Is this true? Can anyone elaborate on this for me?

I received the pm! Sorry don't have that kind of though but thanks anyways! ;D

1978 was the last year of the SOHC, they went to DOHC for 79-up.

Greetings. Just a note to let you know a few of the problems I have had on my 1980 CB900f Super Sport which is pretty much the same bike only 150cc bigger. You will most likey have an electrical problem eventually. The charging system was a poor design and at some point the rotor, stator, and regulator will need replacing. Replacing mine totalled me about 400 dollars. However since the new charging system no problems. These bike are also heavy and a bit sluggish. Hope this helps a little. Ride safe!

Thanks I guess I have to go pre-79!

I found another seller for a 1987 cb750f
Only problem is it doesn't run and he's not sure why. Although it ran in August so I'm hoping its a battery problem  ;D

Thanks for the comment about the dohc bro you have a good looking bike! I researched alittle and everyone seems to talk about the electrical which is a bit scary. In terms of engine too I heard the sohc was a tank. Probably gonna try to go for that  8)

You're text in you're last post said "1987" CB750F  :)...I'm just wondering if you mean 1978" ?? because that was the last year for that bike in sohc4. I wonder how that one looked to you...did you call him or go see it ?
